Taylor Swift is notorious for writing songs about her life. Whether it's Dear John, the heartfelt ballad heavily rumoured to be about her short-lived relationship with John Mayer, or Look What You Made Me Do, the now-notorious track which slams Kim and Kayne harder than they've ever been slammed, the singer doesn't hold back at all in her music. Despite this, it's shockingly difficult to get anything at all out of her in person. In fact, journalist after journalist has tried and failed, begging the question: where oh where will we get the insider deets on Tay-Tay?

Luckily for all of us, there is one white knight who always swoops in to save the day, namely Ellen Degeneres. Every time the Delicate songstress appears on The Ellen Degeneres Show, it seems she can't resist sharing the gossip with the reigning queen of daytime TV, who has an uncanny habit of getting the scoop from every darn celeb she meets. Without further ado, here are 10 of the best life secrets Taylor has spilt on Ellen.

She used to spend a fair bit of time driving past the houses of her ex-boyfriends

On her second Ellen appearance, Taylor admitted to doing this, saying: "I'm not, like, throwing eggs. I'm just checking up on them. It should really be seen as an act of public service, I'm just checking they're OK. Everybody does that, but no one admits it."

She enjoys when her fans cry

Speaking to Ellen, she said: "I get a lot of crying, which is sweet. It's really nice. I guess girls will see their lives and my life – they see parallels with the lyrics, so they'll cry. And it's really nice. I know that it's weird."

She was dumped by Joe Jonas in a 27-second phone call

Being brutally honest about their brief relationship back in 2008, Taylor said: "When I find that person that is right for me, I'm not even going to be able to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18. I looked at the call log and it was 27 seconds. That's got to be a record?"

She set herself two rather ambitious goals at the start of her career

They were as follows: "In spite of success, remain the same person. And in spite of success, remain the same song-writer."

She never wants to meet her heroes

Taylor is a lot of people's hero. However, that doesn't mean she doesn't have her own. Despite this, she has claimed she is never really keen on meeting them: "I have a really timid hero policy. With my heroes I always avoid them and run in the opposite direction if I hear that they're around, because I want them to be what I imagine them to be."

She freaking adores Justin Timberlake though

When the singer sat down with Ellen to talk about her first Grammy nomination, she revealed Justin was the one person she wanted to meet. When the TV presenter asked whether she had a crush on JT, Taylor joked, "No, no, no, who would have a crush on Justin Timberlake? No one. Ew." Ellen being Ellen, of course, decided to surprise the young songwriter the next time she came on with the former NSYNC boybander, something that Taylor "freaked out" at. Weirdly enough, nowadays the pair are firm friends.

She used to beg for a record contract

In a particularly emotional interview with Ellen, Taylor stated that any time people were discussing an out of school event that she wasn't invited to, she'd tell herself: "It's fine, I can write a song about this later." She also revealed she still deploys this strategy whenever she's sad now.

She has a bizarre fear of being framed for a crime and sent to jail

Speaking on the show in 2015, Taylor said: "So many people would frame me. But look at me! I wouldn't survive in jail! I think [the fear] comes from the fact that I can see any headline written about me at any time that could be the most ridiculously untrue thing. I could sit in my house with the cats all day and somehow there'll be an article about me buying a house in a place I've never been. In nightmare world, that fear then becomes being framed for murder."

Also, sea urchins

Strangely, Taylor is terrified of accidentally standing on a sea urchin, being impaled and needing it surgically removed. She told Ellen: "You could lose your foot, you could lose your hand, you could lose your hand trying to get it out of your foot."

She gets nervous like the rest of us

Before every album has been released, the Look What You Made Me Do star has had repetitive nightmares in which Rolling Stone "hate" it and give it a "half star" review. Luckily for her, all of them appear to have worked out pretty well for her.

All hail the queen of talk shows! How on earth does the comedian manage to do it every single time? Ellen, we don't know exactly what you're up to, but keep it up.
