An actor has taken to social media to slam the moment a director criticized his "s***ty apartment" during a Zoom audition, unaware he was unmuted.
Twenty-five-year-old actor Lukas Gage - who has appeared in Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse and Euphoria - shared the awkward moment with his 129,000+ Instagram followers.
Gage caption the clip: "psa: if youre a s**t talking director make sure to mute ur mic on zoom mtgings".
Watch the awkward moment unfold below:In the clip, Gage can be seen preparing for his virtual audition via Zoom in what appears to be the living room in his apartment.
However, seemingly unaware that his microphone was not muted, the unknown director can then be heard saying to somebody else on the call: "These poor people living in these tiny apartments, like, I'm looking at his background and he's got his TV…"
But before he can continue, Gage interrupts him, and after informing the director that he was unmuted, Gage says: "I know it's a s***y apartment but that’s why give me this job and I’ll get a better one."
Realizing his insult was perfectly audible, the director can be heard saying that he is "mortified", to which Gage says: "I'm living in a 4x4 box, just give me the job and we'll be fine."
As of this writing, Gage's video has already been viewed over 770,000 times on Instagram in just a day.
And over on Twitter, people were quick to defend the young star.
American director Judd Apatow tweeted: "As a young man I would have dreamed of an apartment like this one. Look at that sweet flat screen! The guitar! The moldings!"
And Robin Williams' daughter, Zelda, tweeted: "Since @lukasgage is going viral on film twitter for being the graceful, quick-thinking sweetheart he is, I’d like to add for any (non-asshole) director’s looking that he’s also a delight to work with, funny, talented and a blast on set. Hire this man!"
And Emmy-winning comedian Billy Eichner also tweeted support for Gage, writing: "Actors are often (not always but often) treated like garbage and taken advantage of because 'we’re just lucky to have a job' and 'we’re gonna take the job anyway' etc etc. It’s very f**ked up."
Even Family Guy star Seth MacFarlane shared his support... in his own unique way:
Something tells me this director just gave Lukas all the support his career needed during these difficult times - even if he didn't mean to.
