Heard's reputation was altered after she spent the better part of 2022 tied up in an extremely messy defamation court battle with her ex-husband, Johnny Depp which has now been made into a movie.

As per NBC News, Heard alleged that her former partner subjected her to years of abuse, testifying in graphic terms about the ups and downs of their marriage and the toll of his "pattern" of violence.

Depp, for his part, said that Heard was the aggressor.

There were multiple bold accusations being thrown from one side to another with video evidence as well as witness testimonies also presented throughout the lengthy trial.

In the end, the jury ruled in Depp's favor and Heard was initially ordered to pay more than $10 million in damages to Depp, though the final figure she owed was lowered due to limitations in the state.

Depp, meanwhile, was ordered to pay Heard $2 million after she filed a countersuit accusing him of defamation after his lawyer, Adam Waldman, called her abuse claims a "hoax."

The trial stayed in the limelight throughout its entire duration, with it being a hot talking point in the media as well as between social media users online, so it's no wonder that it was recently made into a free streaming movie titled Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial.

Megan Davis and Mark Hapka played the notorious ex-couple, but just as the opinions about the real actors were rife online, they were also pretty intense against these actors.

Davis revealed that she was originally skeptical about taking the role and for good reason.

"When that role was announced, it was like a wave of so much hate. I think probably like... 30,000 messages and comments. And so many of them were awful, just like, ‘You’re so ugly, you’re so fat. You’re an embarrassment. Just really mean stuff," she told Page Six. "And at the time, I think I thought I was prepared. I knew there would be some response, but I don’t think I thought it would be like that."

Regardless, after studying the video tapes from the trial, the actress stated that she wanted to "humanize" Heard in a way the media seemingly failed to do.

"When I listened to those tapes, I recognized a lot of myself in how I used to argue with people that I was in love with. It’s challenging when you’re in love with someone who has a larger-than-life life," she continued. "I think she was doing the best she could and I think most of us are usually doing the best that we can. It wasn’t really a challenge to humanize her because I felt like she was very human and people weren’t giving her credit for that."

As for Hapka, he didn't want to sway too much to either side.

"When I was offered the role, it wasn't necessarily a hell yes," Hapka recalled to Entertainment Weekly. "...It's a risky role."

"I had questions," he added. "I got on the phone with our director and I spoke to our producer and wanted to find out what kind of movie they were going to make, because if there was going to be any type of bias or sway to either side, then I really wasn't interested."
