Angela White has shared her gratitude at being allowed to address students at the University of California as part of a "groundbreaking" film course.

The 37-year-old Australian adult movie star has previously been hailed as the "Meryl Streep of p*rn", but I doubt anyone could have predicted that she'd one day be speaking to students as part of an academic syllabus.

But that's exactly what happened earlier this month, when White what invited to speak as part of a lecture to Film Studies students. And, per the Daily Mail, she was welcomed with open arms by staff and students alike.

Taking to Instagram to talk about her experience, White thanked University of California staff member Professor Constance Penley for having her, writing: "Thank you Professor Constance Penley for having me as a guest speaker at your groundbreaking course at UCSB.

"This is my third time as a guest speaker at this Film Studies class that approaches p*rnography as worthy of serious inquiry as a genre and as popular culture."

White - who was hailed as an "adult entertainer, entrepreneur, academic, politician, and a creative" - then thanked the students for their amazing support and for asking the guest speaker plenty of questions.

"Thank you to the incredible students who asked well-informed, thought-provoking questions about my career as a performer/director, my academic research, and my time in politics," White added.

White then told her 10 million followers that, "while it has been a number of years since my research dissertation was published in 'The Routledge Companion to Media, Sex, and Sexuality', academic pursuit remains an interest of mine and something I wish to return to in the future."

Professor Penley works for the university in the Department of Feminist Studies at UCSB, per the institute's website.

However, despite the remarkable accomplishment, White's invitation to speak to students divided social media users.

There were plenty of supporters, such as one person who commented: "You are breaking all the stereotypes and walls and setting the standard, you are a queen!"

A second added: "Thank YOU for your incredible passion, drive, and being SUCH an inspiration to so many. Can't wait to see what's next for you."

But one person branded the decision "absolute nonsense", with another critic saying that "society officially has lost its marbles".

White's lecture comes after she spoke out about claims made by fellow industry star Keiran Lee who claimed he put her in the hospital following shooting a scene. Read White's response here.
