Amber Heard denied a claim by Johnny Depp's lawyer that her Hollywood star ex was responsible for landing her the role in DC's Aquaman.

Much has been said about 58-year-old Depp's apparent belief that his former wife's ability to book roles was more to do with her looks than her acting talent.

It is also undeniable that the Pirates of the Caribbean alum is a much better-known star - and a more beloved one.

In any case, court proceedings resumed this week following a 10-day break and yesterday (May 17),  Depp's attorney, Camille Vasquez, suggested that her client had secured his ex-wife the role of Mera in the 2018 movie.

“Johnny Depp got you Aquaman, didn’t he?” Vasquez asked Heard.

“I got Aquaman for myself,” Heard hit back.

This comes after the actress said her role in Aquaman's forthcoming sequel was pared down substantially amid her and Depp's respective allegations of abuse.

According to Heard, her part in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom – which is slated for release sometime next year – was significantly cut down after Depp's team referred to her initial claims of domestic abuse as a "hoax".

Yesterday, the final day of Heard's cross-examination, also saw the actress questioned over her 2009 arrest as Depp's attorney insisted that she "committed domestic violence against" against her ex-girlfriend, Tasya van Ree.

Heard told jurors that the claims she assaulted van Ree were part of a "smear campaign" orchestrated by Depp's legal team.

In 2016, van Ree shared a statement with Variety denying claims that she was assaulted by Heard.

She said: “In 2009, Amber was wrongfully accused for an incident that was misinterpreted and over-sensationalized by two individuals in a power position.

“I recount hints of misogynistic attitudes toward us which later appeared to be homophobic when they found out we were domestic partners and not just ‘friends.’

"Charges were quickly dropped and she was released moments later. It’s disheartening that Amber’s integrity and story are being questioned yet again.

“Amber is a brilliant, honest and beautiful woman and I have the utmost respect for her. We shared five wonderful years together and remain close to this day.”
