Arnold Schwarzenegger has proven that he's not just a hero on the big screen, but in real life too.

The 74-year-old former Governor of California spent the days before Christmas visiting homeless US veterans and making sure they settled into their new homes in Los Angeles - homes the Terminator star donated.

Sharing photos of the new residences to Instagram, alongside snaps of him mingling with the heroes, Schwarzenegger captioned the post: "Today, I celebrated Christmas early.

"The 25 homes I donated for homeless veterans were installed here in LA. It was fantastic to spend some time with our heroes and welcome them into their new homes."

The actor went on to thank the non-profit Village for Vets for arranging the construction of the homes, as well as the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, AMVETS, and "everyone who worked with us and made this possible".

"We proved that when we all work together, we can solve any problem," the Jingle All The Way star wrote.

Arnold was joined by his son, Patrick, who took to his Instagram Stories to share a message about his father's donation.

"I'm really proud of my dad for donating all of these houses, there's these kinda small houses with roofs over the heads that are temperature controlled," Patrick said. "And this is all for our veterans - our veterans who have been spending the last months and years out on the street in tents because our mayor and our city don't do anything for our veterans."

He continued: "So, my dad has now donated all of these houses for them so that they have a roof over their head and a place to stay, especially over this holiday season."

Village for Vets also took to their social media channels to thank Schwarzenegger for his generosity, writing: "This holiday season 25 more veterans have a roof over their head thanks to the generosity of [Arnold Schwarzenegger].

"His donation to Village for Vets made it possible for us to purchase and build the remaining 25 shelters at the CTRS site on the VA Campus. His presence at their Holiday Party today was the icing on the cake! Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible including @teamrubicon for helping assemble the shelters and @patrickschwarzenegger for helping raise awareness!"

An incredible act of kindness for true American heroes!
