With the argument around "Nepo Babies" being so prevalent these days, it is no surprise that some kids of famous parents want to forge their own paths in life.
And when it comes to famous parents, it's hard to get more recognizable than bodybuilder-turned-actor-turned-politician Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The 76-year-old Terminator star is one of the most well-known faces on the entire planet - and I'd hazard a guess that more people know his last name than they do their own mother's maiden name.
Arnie is also father to five children: Katherine Schwarzenegger, Christina Schwarzenegger, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Christopher Schwarzenegger, and Joseph Baena.
Now, it doesn't take a genius to notice that one of the actor's children - 26-year-old Joseph, has chosen to forge his own path without the Schwarzenegger name.
Baena is the child Schwarzenegger fathered during his affair with former housekeeper Mildred Baena. She was reportedly pregnant with her son when Schwarzenegger's ex-wife Maria Shriver was expecting their fourth child – a revelation that didn't emerge until 2011.
Since then, Joseph and Arnold have appeared to develop a wonderful father-son relationship - with Joseph following in his dad's footsteps in both acting and bodybuilding (as well as sharing the Jingle All The Way star's good looks).
However, in an interview with Inside Edition, Baena was asked why he doesn’t use his "famous last name", to which he replied: "Well I already have a last name, and I don't have a problem with my last name. I like my last name."
The reporter then asked if he feels like he has "big shoes to fill", given his father's reputation in Hollywood (and beyond).
"Well, literally we have the same shoe size," Baena quipped, adding: "I've never thought of it in that way. My career path is really just my own."
While Baena said the media has "always been in [his] face", he said he tries to "drown it out", saying it's just "outside noise" to him.
"My mom is one of my main motivators, and seeing her and how she works so hard, I want to make her proud," he added.
"Same with my father. What he made of himself from nothing. I mean, both of my parents are immigrants that kind of created something out of nothing. So, seeing them, it's been a huge inspiration, and I want to make them proud. I want to myself proud," he added.
Baena previously opened up about why he has a different last name to his dad, telling E! News' Daily Pop: "There's a few different variables in that.
"But that's just not my main priority at the moment, so I'm just focused on building myself up and building my career in acting and real estate and just focusing on that right now."
He went on: "I mean, my dad is a stallion. He's a man's man, I like to think, and I look up to him a lot. So in a way, he's influenced a lot of things: the path that I have taken with acting, with fitness and my physique and the many other things that I'm doing."
And in an interview on the Unwaxed podcast - hosted by two of Sylvester Stallone's daughters, Sophia and Sistine - Baena revealed why his famous father chose to stop financially supporting him after he graduated.
"I'm really grateful that my dad helped me get through college," he recalled. "But right when college was done, it was just like, 'You go. You're on your own.' I was like, 'Oh, s**t'."
Baena then added that he became a realtor to support himself when finishing college. Though, he does dream of becoming an actor like his action star father.
"I needed a job, and I was not getting any of the acting roles that I thought I was going to get," he said. "I was like, 'I need to do something', so I started interning at this real estate company."
As it would turn out, Baena ended up loving the job, realizing that it was his passion. Taking to Instagram, Baena posted a photo after he'd sold his first property in Santa Monica.
Baena has managed to score some acting roles, with his most recent being in the flick Bully High - which was released on the streaming platform Tubi in late 2022.
