What's not to love about Barack Obama? Sure, every political leader has made their fair share of unfulfilled promises and questionable decisions, but in comparison to the current incumbent, Obama's stay in the White House was dignified and largely successful. Aside from being the first black President of the United States, Obama was committed to upholding the tenants of democracy, for American nationals and beyond - something that his successor has called into question of late.

As if that wasn't enough, Barack Obama also has to be one of the most beloved President's ever. A dedicated family man, his love for his two daughters, Sasha and Malia, was evident. And I think we can all agree that the Obama's just did the whole marriage thing right. Last year, he was snapped being a quintessential "Instagram Husband", and don't even get me started on the time when he teared up thanking Michelle in his farewell address.

Now, if you're also having a hard time with the lack of Barack Obama in your life right now, I've got some good news: the former President of the United States is in negotiations with Netflix to get his own show.

According to the New York Times, Barack Obama is in advanced negotiations with streaming service, Netflix, to produce a series of high-profile shows that will provide him with a global platform following his departure from the White House.

Under the terms of the deal, which has not yet been finalised, Netflix will pay Obama and the former First Lady, Michelle, for exclusive content which would solely be available on the service. The format of the series and the number of episodes expected to air have not been confirmed.

Representatives of the family have asserted that the 44th President of the United States does not intend to use the platform to respond directly to Donald Trump or other polemical issues. Rather, the Obamas are more interested in highlighting inspirational stories from across the globe.

"President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire," senior advisor to Barack Obama, Eric Schultz, stated on Thursday. "Throughout their lives, they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better. As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories."

In one potential show idea, Obama could chair conversations on topics that dominated his two-term Presidency, such as nationalising health care, voting rights, immigration and climate change. In another, Michelle Obama could discuss causes she championed while in the White House, including women's rights and diversity in the workplace.

In recent months, Barack Obama, has been increasingly outspoken about social media's power to shape and subvert narratives, as well aid the flow of information and misinformation. His new platform, then, can be read as an opportunity to further debate such topics.
