The 35-year-old singer made her debut at the 2025 Met Gala on Monday night (May 5), stunning in a curve-hugging Christian Siriano gown with a dramatic tulle skirt.
The theme of the prestigious fashion event was "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," which coincided with the museum's spring 2025 exhibition, which explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Rexha said dandyism brings to mind “structured jackets,” and praised Siriano, saying he “always nails the assignment” and “always makes me look good".
The 'I'm Good' songstress celebrated her appearance on Instagram by sharing a photo with the caption: “My first Met Gala.”
But that excitement quickly turned to anguish as a flood of online trolls began picking apart her appearance, with one particularly cruel comment from rapper Azealia Banks, 33, sparking widespread backlash.
“Sis gives me - hormonal birth control implant or something,” Banks posted on X, continuing: “It’s giving implanon/nuvaring she needs removed or depo shot that needs to stop happening (I’m not even tryna play her).”
In a since-deleted post reported by Page Six, Rexha hit back and laid bare the deeply personal reason behind her weight changes.
“I’m so tired of people commenting on my weight,” she wrote. “I have PCOS [polycystic ovary syndrome] and struggle with infertility.”
PCOS is a hormonal disorder that affects your hormones and causes irregular menstrual periods, excess hair growth, acne, and infertility
Rexha then revealed an even more devastating truth in the post, sharing: “I got pregnant, and it didn’t work out, and I’ve been carrying that pain in silence. I never owed anyone the truth, but maybe now you’ll think twice before commenting on anyone’s body."
Addressing Banks directly, Rexha clapped back with a sharp dose of honesty: “And you might wanna jump on some type of therapy, sis,” she said. “Lexapro worked great for me.”
“Something that helps with the deep-rooted sadness and chaos you keep projecting. Healing looks good on everyone. Try it,” she added.
Rexha did not disclose when the pregnancy loss occurred or who the father was, but her revelation triggered an outpouring of love and sympathy from fans. “I’m sorry for the loss of your baby. deepest sympathies,” one supporter shared.
Others turned their attention to Banks, calling for accountability. "You never know what someone is going through. Azealia was foul for posting this. Comment on the fashion not the person's physical appearance or body shame," one person said.
“She needs to be banned asap.. what’s with the body shaming?” a second user questioned. “You sure are a hater aren't you. We, as decent humans, should lift each other up, not tear each other down,” a third wrote.
Shortly after, Rexha returned to social media to write: “Ok I’m gonna go and enjoy my day now. Have a good day, everyone love you.”
