Ben Affleck has divided people online after a fan encounter went viral on social media.
Earlier this month, TikTok user Jaime Núñez - who uses the handle @nunezj182 on the platform - shared a video showing his friend bumping into the Batman actor in what looks like a hotel in Las Vegas.
In the clip, 49-year-old Affleck can be seen walking up an escalator, as the man behind the camera saying "Sup, Ben!" In response, the actor continued on his journey without even glancing over at the man.
The commentary over the video says: "One of my good friends saw Ben Affleck when he passed by. He said 'hi' but Ben ignored him."
Check out the video below:The video has since been viewed over 895,000 times and received more than 850 comments from divided TikTokers.
For example, one person wrote: "Be humble Ben. [Your] fans are the ones who get you paid."
This sentiment was echoed by a now "former" fan, who commented: "I used to like him, but not anymore doesn't cost anything to be nice."
However, many others defended the Good Will Hunting star, with one person typing: "Why do people demand celebrities do things when [they] ask/tell them too? They don't owe anyone anything. You like their movies, it's their job."
"Seriously? About 400 people a day probably say hi to him. He probably can't even keep a train of thought," argued one person.
Meanwhile, another TikTok user advised: "Tell your friend to put their phone down, and maybe he'd engage. He doesn't owe anyone anything, especially if it's for clout on social media."
Others even took the time to share the positive fan interactions they have had with Affleck, with one person revealing that he met the star back in 2002 at The Mirage sportsbook in Las Vegas.
Branding Affleck the "coolest dude ever", the TikToker added that he talked "baseball for 10 minutes" with the actor, before receiving a handshake from him.
Another person added that their husband used to work at the Bellagio Hotel & Resort for years, and that Affleck was "always very nice and an amazing tipper".
These more positive sentiments were, in fact, echoed by Núñez, who captioned the video: "He may seem like a d**k, but Celebs do this cuz they don’t want to garner attention."
Remember, celebrities are people too. And like most of us, they're probably more willing to say hello if they don't have a camera shoved in their face.
