Following the tragic death of Aaron Carter's sister, Bobbie Jean Carter, her official cause of death has been revealed.

As previously reported, the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Carter, aged 41, was found "unresponsive" in her home bathroom in Tampa, Florida.

"On December 23, 2023, Hillsborough County Fire rescue crews arrived at the home located in Tampa, and they discovered a woman who later was identified as Bobbie Jean Carter," an official statement read.

Despite immediate transportation to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, Carter was pronounced dead by hospital medical staff at 8:02AM.

Law enforcement authorities initiated a death investigation, revealing that Carter was on probation for cocaine possession. However, her roommate insisted: "She had not used any narcotics since her release from prison."

No narcotics or personal paraphernalia were found in Carter's room or bathroom, and no signs of foul play were evident.

A medical examiner’s officer was notified, and deputies remained with Carter’s eight-year-old daughter until her next of kin arrived from Orlando.

According to a report obtained by PEOPLE, Carter's roommate last saw her at 6:30AM, and by 7:00AM found her unresponsive.  The report also revealed part of her medical history, including a diagnosis of schizophrenia.

According to the report, her death was caused by "intoxication by the combined effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine."

Carter's mother, Jane Carter, expressed shock to TMZ shortly after her daughter's death. "I am in shock from learning of the sudden death of my daughter, Bobbie Jean; and I will need time to process the terrible reality of this happening for the third time," she stated.

Days following the tragedy, Nick Carter released a heartfelt statement dedicated to his late sister. In an open letter shared on Instagram, he reminisced about their bond, highlighting her sense of humor and lively spirit. "Life wasn’t fair to you, that I know. Sometimes, it feels like you didn’t have a shot, no matter what," he wrote.

The news of Carter's death followed the passing of her brother, Aaron, who was tragically found lifeless in his home bathtub on November 5, 2022.

Confirmation of the news came from Aaron's on-and-off fiancée, Melanie Martin, who shared a statement with TMZ, expressing her love for Aaron and the challenges of raising their son without him.

The couple had a one-year-old son named Prince.

Autopsy results, reported by TMZ, indicate that Carter died from drowning after ingesting alprazolam (Xanax) and inhaling compressed difluoroethane, commonly found in cans of compressed air.

The report suggests he became "incapacitated while in the bathtub due to the effects" of the drugs and inhalation, leading to his accidental drowning.

Martin expressed confusion over the report, stating: "The results of the autopsy are not closure for me. It claims death is by drowning but also adds he was wearing a t-shirt and necklace in the bathtub which doesn't make sense, why would he be in a bathtub with clothes on? I am still in shock and still miss Aaron every day. I don't understand the chain of events and this report only has us asking more questions."

Our thoughts are with all those in the Carter family following these devastating incidents.
