Rege-Jean Page, star of the Netflix period drama Bridgerton, has poked fun at his heartthrob status in a recent appearance on Saturday Night Live.
In a monologue delivered to the camera, the 31-year-old actor joked that he was "just a normal guy" and nothing like his character, brooding and Byronic Duke of Hastings Simon Basset, in real life.
Per The Independent, the star also hung an irreverent lampshade on the show's graphic and steamy sex scenes, stating:
"You probably recognize me from Bridgerton, the show that made everyone turn to their moms and say: 'You know what? Never mind, I don't think we should watch this together.
"It's a bit of a racy show. And because of that, people may associate me being this smoldering, sexual smoke show. But I assure you, I'm just a regular guy."
The actor then continued:
"I'm here to show you a good time and explore each other. Does that sound fun to you?
"Ladies, I hate to break it to you but I'm actually kind of a nerd. I nerd out on music, I sing silly little songs."
Jean Page then went on to perform in a number of sketches, making fun of the show's sex scenes by having Pete Davidson play a so-called "intimacy coordinator."
However, Page has had to deal with some more serious real-life consequences of his association with his character, and recently had to deny rumors that he is dating his co-star Dynevor.
Per Page Six, when asked about their alleged off-screen romance in a virtual interview with Access Hollywood, Page stated: "I think everything you need to know is on camera. That’s why we presented it so beautifully for you.
"All the sparks that flew off of the beautiful scripts that we were handed, and so I think that the sparky scripted material are more than enough."
Per The Daily Star, 25-year-old Dynevor has revealed how she felt about the prospect of watching her own sex scenes with Page while viewing the show with her family.
She laughed: "I had to sit there and fast forward on high alert with the remote control. We managed it, just about."
Despite some of the racier scenes, the Daphne actor stated that her mom, Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor, was "very proud and excited" to see the Netflix series.
She added: "I watched the show with the whole family, even the grandparents managed to watch it."
