Britney Spears breaks silence by trolling Instagram after 'disturbing' documentary airs
Britney Spears has broken her silence by trolling Instagram after a "disturbing" new documentary about her conservatorship aired.
Framing Britney Spears details the 'Toxic' singer's rise to fame and her notorious 2007 meltdown which led to her father Jamie being named her conservator in 2008.
Spears is currently trying to remove her father from the role, which, for example, prevents her from making her own financial decisions despite him no longer having control over her person.
The documentary begins with showing protests and social media posts from the #FreeBritney movement.
An in-person protest is accompanied by the slogan: "What do we want? Free Britney! When do we want it? Now!"
The Daily Mail reports that the new film was directed by Samantha Stark and produced by the New York Times, and it appeared on Hulu before being televised on FX that same evening.
After the documentary was aired on February 5, fans of the singer rushed to social media to share messages of support.
One Twitter user said: "I'm hoping the power of social media and the outpouring of love will help, heal, and free Britney Spears this go round. #FreeBritney."
"Framing Britney Spears makes me feel so much worse for her. Free my queen," another added.
Now, Britney herself has weighed in on the documentary, and in a video posted to Instagram yesterday (February 8), she said: "The moment we've all been waiting for [happened] last week… the Super Bowl! I was so excited but honestly, I was rooting for Kansas City and I was also rooting for the other team, so it was a little confusing for me."
Now, admittedly, this probably wasn't the comment fans were expecting from the singer, but given that it relates to an ongoing legal battle, it is an understandable one.
One of the documentary's interviewees is Jive Records marketing executive Kim Kaiman, who worked with Britney during the early part of her career.
He said of Britney's father Jamie: "The only thing Jamie ever said to me was: "My daughter is going to be so rich she’s going to buy me a boat," That’s all I’m gonna say about Jamie."
