Cameron Diaz and her husband Benji Madden have announced the arrival of their third child, choosing yet another unusual name to add to the family's collection.
The Charlie's Angels star, 53, and the Good Charlotte musician, 47, welcomed a baby boy named Nautas Madden, the couple confirmed in an Instagram post on Monday (May 4).
The name continues a clear pattern for the couple, who already share six-year-old daughter Raddix and two-year-old son Cardinal.
Benji Madden shared the news on Instagram, posting a nautical-themed illustration featuring a pirate ship in full sail with the baby's name, alongside drawings of a cardinal bird and a potted plant, believed to represent each of the couple's three children.
"Cameron and I are Happy, Excited, and feeling so BLESSED to announce the birth of our third Child, Nautas Madden," he captioned the post.
"Welcome to the world Son!!"
He continued: "We love life with our family - our kids are healthy & happy, and we are grateful!!
"Having a blast, sending all our best wishes — the Madden Family."
Diaz responded to the post in the comments with a string of red heart emojis.
According to the announcement graphic shared by Benji, the name 'Nautas' is drawn from the Latin word 'nauta,' meaning sailor.
The full definition included in the post described the name as: "Sailor, navigator, voyager, one who embarks on a journey and fears not the unknown."
The pirate ship imagery on the announcement leaned heavily into that nautical theme.
It's a notable shift from the couple's previous name choices, which fans (and bookies) might have expected to land somewhere closer to nature or symbolism than to maritime adventure.
Diaz and Madden have long been known for picking names that fall well outside the celebrity baby mainstream.
Their first child, Raddix Wildflower, was born in December 2019.
The name immediately raised eyebrows online, with fans split between calling it 'cool' and 'too out there.'
Their second, Cardinal, was born in March 2024, and his name also caused a divide online, with social media users similarly torn between admirers and critics.
"Cameron Diaz + Benji Madden = CARDINAL Madden. I mean name your kids whatever you want, but that's terrible," one user wrote at the time.
Others were more supportive. "Love Cardinal!! It's a beautiful name!" one fan commented.
"Different names are in and I like it!" added another.
It remains to be seen how the world will react to Nautas, but going on past form, opinions are likely to be split once again.
Despite their high-profile careers, Diaz and Madden have always made a point of keeping their children out of the public eye, never sharing photos of them on social media.
When announcing Raddix's birth in 2020, the couple wrote: "While we are overjoyed to share this news, we also feel a strong instinct to protect our little one's privacy."
That stance hasn't shifted with the third arrival.
The pirate ship on the announcement was the closest thing to a baby photo. They also did not disclose the date of Nautas's birth.
Diaz, who became a mum for the first time at 47, has spoken openly about how meaningful having a family later in life has been for her.
"The thing that I'm most grateful for in my life is our marriage and our family," she told Benji's twin brother Joel Madden on his Artist Friendly podcast in 2024.
In a 2020 interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, she called parenting 'the best thing that ever happened' to her.
Speaking last year about her decision to step away from Hollywood for nearly a decade to focus on her family, she said: "It felt like the right thing for me to reclaim my own life, and I just really didn't care about anything else."
"Nobody's opinion, nobody's success, no one's offer, no one's anything could change my mind about my decision of taking care of myself and building the life that I really wanted to have."
After a 10-year acting hiatus, Diaz returned to the screen in January 2025, starring opposite Jamie Foxx in Netflix's Back in Action.
The couple, who married in 2015 after meeting through Benji's twin brother Joel and his wife Nicole Richie, have now been together more than 11 years.
For Raddix, Cardinal and now Nautas, growing up out of the spotlight is clearly the plan. As Benji put it in the announcement: "Having a blast."
