Carole Baskin has opened up about what she thinks happened to her ex-husband in Louis Theroux's new documentary.

The Tiger King star's former husband Don Lewis disappeared in 1997, just two months after he sought a restraining order against his then-wife, and the case remains unsolved to this day.

Last year, Baskin herself was seriously implicated in the disappearance of Don, once again, after Joe Exotic repeatedly accused her of having "fed him to the tigers" in the hit Netflix docuseries.

In the new documentary, Theroux asked Baskin if she had Don had a happy marriage and she explained that they did, having been together since she was 19 years old.

She also explained that the pair continued to live together prior to Don's disappearance, despite the fact that she had sought a restraining order against him.

At this point in the documentary, her now-husband Howard has become upset by Theroux's questioning and asks the documentary maker to move on.

Baskin, however, went on to bring up her ex-husband again and offer her own theory about his mysterious disappearance.

Explaining what she thinks happened to Don, Baskin says: "I think people will often ask me what you think happened to him. I had so many theories at the time.

"I think the thing that makes most sense is he crashed an experimental or ultralight out over the gulf. If it was anything else I think they would have found him by now."

Carole's now-husband said that they believed Tiger King would be about "exposing the bad guys" in the big cat industry and blames its directors, Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin, for bringing up his wife's past.

After realizing that Don's appearance would be a part of the docuseries, Howard asked about how it would be portrayed and was told: "I think people are going to be scratching their heads."

Howard fumes: "No one is scratching their heads, most people came away convinced Carole killed Don. But what they did isn’t just unethical it was outright cruel."

The Big Cat Rescue owner explained that the initial Netflix documentary caused such a stir that her phone consistently rang for three months with strangers calling to give her insults and death threats.

As per the Mirror, the editors of the docuseries insist that they were honest with Baskin about what they wanted to achieve and had no idea the story would "take a life of its own".

But she claims they gave her a "villain edit".

Louis Theroux: Shooting Joe Exotic is airing today (April 5) in the UK on BBC One at 9 pm.
