She had recently been nominated for a Golden Globe, but opted to skip the ceremony, which took place on January 11.
Following her passing, Macaulay Culkin shared a tribute of his own on Instagram, sharing an uncannily similar side-by-side photo of him with O'Hara taken decades apart.
In the first shot, from Home Alone, O'Hara smiles at Culkin as a young child, while the second - taken at his recent Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony - shows the pair in the same positions, now with Culkin as an adult.
He wrote alongside it: "Mama. I thought we had time.
"I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you. But I had so much more to say.
"I love you. I’ll see you later."
Our thoughts remain with O'Hara's family, friends, and fans at this devastating time.
