As of the most recent situation report from the World Health Organization, there has been 179,112 confirmed cases of COVID-19 around the world, and 7,426 deaths. These numbers are increasing every hour.

With everybody feeling unsettled and panicked, it is only natural that some people are thinking out loud on social media - without giving any real consideration to their words. One of these people is High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens.

Earlier this week, the 31-year-old actress took to Instagram Live to share her thoughts on the COVID-19 pandemic - but some of her fans were left unimpressed with her choice of words.

Check out Vanessa's "dumb" comments in the video below:

During her live stream, Hudgens revealed how she doesn't believe we should let the COVID-19 pandemic disturb our day-to-day lives just because "people are going to die": "Um, yeah, 'til July sounds like a bunch of bulls**t.

"I’m sorry, but like, it’s a virus, I get it, like, I respect it, but at the same time I’m like, even if everybody gets it, like yeah, people are going to die, which is terrible but like, inevitable?"

It's safe to say that a lot of people were not happy with Hudgens' choice of words, and the Spring Breakers star was lambasted on social media:

Reacting to the controversy, Chrissy tweeted her support for Hudgens - saying she was just having a "f***ing dumb" moment:

"Sometimes people, especially famous people, are gonna say really stupid s**t. & so are you. and they, and u, will learn from it & hopefully their history says they’re good.

"It’s ok. and at the same time, wow they really had a dumb f****n moment. but u don’t have ruin their lives."

Chrissy is used to being on the receiving end of negative comments on social media, and shared her relief that this time it wasn't her. She added: "This isn’t about me this time. but it will be one day, or it’ll be you. but yeah today it’s Vanessa lol."

Since receiving backlash for her comments, Hudgens has since provided an apology on social media.

She writes: "Hey guys. I'm so sorry for the way I have offended anyone and everyone who has seen the clip from my Instagram live yesterday.

"I realize my words were insensitive and not at all appropriate for the situation our country and the world are in right now.

"This has been a huge wake up call about the significance my words have, now more than ever.

"I'm sending safe wishes to everyone to stay safe and healthy during this crazy time."

It's important to remember that everybody is scared and uncertain about what is happening right now. But if High School Musical taught me one thing, it is that we're all in this together...
