Christina Applegate has revealed that she's been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS).
After sharing the news with her fans, the Anchorman star asked for privacy as she comes to terms with the diagnosis.
Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, August 10, she wrote to her 1.4 million followers: "Hi friends. A few months ago, I was diagnosed with MS. It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition.
"It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a**hole blocks it."
"As one of my friends that has MS said, 'We wake up and take the indicated action,'" she added in a separate tweet. "And that’s what I do. So now I ask for privacy. As I go through this thing. Thank you."
According to NHS, multiple sclerosis is an incurable lifelong condition that affects the way the brain and spinal cord function.
Per Mayo Clinic, the immune system in those who have the condition attacks the protective cover on nerve fibers. This then causes communication issues between the person's brain and the rest of their body.
Some of the symptoms of MS include poor vision, restricted movement of one's arm and legs, and balance problems.
After revealing her diagnosis, a number of the actress' fans took to Twitter to share their best wishes, with many opening up about their own personal experiences with the disease.
One person said: "Sry to hear that Christina. My wife has had MS for the past 25yrs.....on top of that she had brain surgery during the 2020 covid19 pandemic! By the way, she's doing fine on both good luck to you my dear. [sic]"
Another shared: "Dear Christina. At the age of 23, I was diagnosed with MS. This was 24 years ago. It has been an interesting life since then. I wish you all the best. You can call me any time. Martijn."
A final person wrote: "Sending good wishes. MS isn't funny but that's not the end of your journey. I was diagnosed 16 years ago and I'm living normal with a lot of happiness. [sic]"
