Amber Heard had admitted to "hitting" Johnny Depp in an audio recording played at their defamation trial on Wednesday.

The couple was heard arguing about the physical altercation on the recording, during which she refuted claims by Depp that she had "punched" him - but instead admitted to "hitting" him.

The jury heard as the Aquaman actress told Depp in the recording: "I didn't punch you. I'm sorry I didn't hit you across the face in a proper slap. I was hitting you. It was not punching you."

Check out the moment the recording was played back in court:

Depp is heard responding: "Don't tell me what it feels like to be punched."

Heard replied: "You've been in a lot of fights, you've been around a long time. You didn't get punched. You got hit. I'm sorry I hit you like this, I didn't punch you. I did not f***ing deck you. I f***ing was hitting you.

"I don't know what the motion of my actual hand was. You're fine. I did not hurt you, I did not punch you, I was hitting you. I'm not sitting here b****ing about. You're a f***ing baby."

Heard tells her then husband: "You are such a baby! Grow the f*** up Johnny."

Depp had asked her in the recording if she started a "physical fight," to which Heard responded: “I did start a physical fight.”

“Yeah, you did, so I had to get out of there,” Depp responded.

“You did the right thing. The big thing. You know what – you’re admirable,” Heard said with a sarcastic tone.

In another audio recording played to the court, Heard calls Depp a "f****** piece of s***." She says in the clip: "Why don't you go f*** yourself. Go suck your own d***. Stingy old piece of s***."

"I hope to God Jack's stepfather teaches them more about being a man because you're so good at it," Heard says in reference to Depp's son Jack, now aged 20.

In her 2018 op-ed for the Washington Post, Heard wrote that “like many women, I had been harassed and sexually assaulted by the time I was of college age. But I kept quiet — I did not expect filing complaints to bring justice. And I didn’t see myself as a victim”.

“Then two years ago, I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out,” she added.

Depp wasn't named in the piece, but the Pirates of the Caribbean actor maintains that it was a clear reference to their relationship. He denies ever striking Heard.
