David Beckham has responded after his son Brooklyn took to Instagram to explain why he isn't on speaking terms with his family.
In a shocking Instagram statement posted last night, the 26-year-old came out swinging against his famous parents, David and Victoria Beckham, accusing them of manipulating the press and controlling his life.
It was a move aimed at defending his wife, actress Nicola Peltz, as he claimed years of disrespect from his own family.
“I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private,” Brooklyn began. “Unfortunately my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.”
The aspiring chef held nothing back, declaring: “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
Brooklyn went on to accuse his parents of tightly managing how the public views their family. “For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.”
He claimed he’s seen firsthand the lengths his parents will go to in order to protect their image: “Recently, I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.”
David Beckham responds
Hours after Brooklyn’s bombshell, David Beckham, 50, finally broke his silence - but not in the way fans might have expected.
Appearing live on CNBC’s Squawk Box, the former England captain didn’t directly address his son’s comments. Instead, he reflected on the impact of social media, especially on his children.
“I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media . . . For the good and for the bad,” he said. “What kids can access these days, it can be dangerous. But what I have found personally, especially with my kids as well, use it for the right reasons.
“I’ve been able to use my platform for my following, for UNICEF. And it has been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on around the world for children. And I have tried to do the same with my children, to educate them.
“They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids.”
The football legend added: “You sometimes have to let them make those mistakes as well.”
David was later seen at the 56th annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, dressed sharply in a dark suit and putting on a composed front amid the media storm.
When asked by a Sky News reporter if he had “a message for Brooklyn,” and whether he was “disappointed family business is being aired in public,” Beckham stayed silent. He smiled to fans and continued walking.
Brooklyn details alleged humiliation at his wedding
Perhaps the most personal blow came when Brooklyn recalled a painful memory from his 2022 wedding to Nicola. He accused his mother of taking over what should have been a private moment between the newlyweds.
“She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life," he claimed.
Brooklyn revealed that he and Nicola renewed their vows after just three years to overwrite memories of “anxiety and embarrassment.”
He claimed his mother continuously tried to make Nicola feel unwelcome: “My mum has repeatedly invited women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable.”
He didn’t hold back when speaking about his father either, referencing David Beckham’s 50th birthday bash.
“He refused all of our attempts, unless it was at his big birthday party with a hundred guests and cameras at every corner,” Brooklyn wrote.
“When he finally agreed to see me, it was under the condition that Nicola wasn’t invited. It was a slap in the face. Later, when my family travelled to LA, they refused to see me at all.
“My family values public promotion and endorsement above all else. Brand Beckham comes first.”
He also brought up an alleged incident involving Nicola’s campaign for displaced dogs during LA wildfires, claiming Victoria did not support the effort.
