It seems like some people on the internet seriously have nothing better to do than criticise the parenting methods of celebrities. Seriously, it doesn't matter what famous people post on social media about their families; eventually, some trolls are going to emerge from out of the woodwork and make ill-informed comments about the way they raise their kids. It's sad, but we've seen it happen countless times before.
Now it seems as though renowned footballer David Beckham - a well-known family man - has provoked outrage among certain commenters after he uploaded a seemingly-innocent picture to Instagram. The picture showed Beckham leaning down and kissing his seven-year-old daughter Harper on the mouth while ice-skating together, which many commenters seemed to find obscene.
One critic commented: "Weird - It's improper for a parent to kiss their kids in the lips; on the forehead/cheeks is cute though," Another added: "She's your daughter. .why are you kissing on her lips..?..that's ur wife kiss." Someone else wrote: "It's weird lol for a father and daughter to lip kiss in counties other than America and England. It’s weird asf."
However, it seems like the vast majority of commenters were supportive of the picture, and many of Beckham's followers soon rushed in to defend the star. One person wrote: "What a sweet moment between father and daughter. Shame on those people that are looking at this as anything else, did your family not express their love for you? What a sad world you must live in that such an innocent photo can prompt such negative comments."
Another commenter chimed in: "The people who comment on it being wrong are the sick ones. I am always showering my son and daughter with kisses and they are 17 and 14. He is showing his daughter how much he loves her. I wish my kids had a dad like him - don’t follow him if u don’t like it. It’s nice seeing someone as famous as him spending time with his kids and not palming them off on nannies. [sic]"
There was so much negativity around the picture that Beckham was forced to respond to the irate comments. He later posted: "I kiss all my kids on the lips. Brooklyn maybe not. Brooklyn is 18, so he might find that a little strange, but I'm very affectionate with the kids. It's how I was brought up - and Victoria - and it's how we are with our children." Beckham added: "We want to show our kids love and we protect them, look after them and support them. Having children is the most special thing in the world."
So what do you guys think? Is this inappropriate? Or is Beckham justified in showing his daughter some love in his own way? Personally, I think that this picture is harmless, and that it ultimately just proves that David Beckham really is a great dad.
