David Beckham has revealed why he kisses his daughter Harper on the lips after facing controversy from some of his followers.
The football star, 48, is well-known for his close relationship with his four children with his wife Victoria Beckham, 49, and his posts with his youngest child Harper regularly have fans leaving adoring comments.
While most people love seeing the pair's sweet relationship, David has faced criticism from others for choosing to kiss the 12-year-old on the lips.
The show of affection has often left some commenters claiming it is "inappropriate" to share such photos, despite it being an innocent moment between father and daughter.
David has never let the haters stop him from sharing these moments and previously addressed why he chooses to show his affection in this way.
He spoke out about the reaction to photos of him kissing Harper in 2017, saying during a Facebook Live conversation at the time: "I’m very affectionate with the kids. It’s how I was brought up, and Victoria, and it’s how we are with our children.
"We want to show our kids love, and you know, we’re very affectionate with them."
He revealed that it's not just Harper he kisses on the lips but all of his kids up until they reach adulthood, adding: "I got criticized for kissing my daughter on the lips. I kiss all my kids on the lips. Brooklyn, maybe not. Brooklyn’s 18 [at the time], he might find that a little bit strange."
Kissing your own children on the lips is a personal parenting choice, with some people arguing that it's something that is probably best to avoid.
Some doctors claim it can affect a child's understanding of their personal boundaries, as well as be a way for germs to be spread which can affect children more as their immune systems are weaker than a grown adult, as well as potentially spreading cavity-causing bacteria to a baby's mouth.
Ollwyn Moran, neurological developmental therapist and CEO of Cognikids, previously supported the Beckhams' choice to be affectionate to their kids, telling The Independent: "Showing love and affection to your child is so important. There are numerous scientific studies that highlight the importance of this.
"Furthermore, what concerns me most is what is in the minds of those people that call out this natural behavior. Why sexualize it?"
David also previously opened up about the way becoming a father at the young age of 23 shaped his life and helped him to grow up faster.
He explained: "I think you mature quicker with kids. You have more important things in life to worry about than your everyday worries, and life becomes all about the kids.
"I think that’s what you learn as a father, you become less important, and it’s all about your children."
