David Beckham fans have come together to defend the star after he was slammed for his post about his 12-year-old daughter.

It seems as though no one can do right on the internet these days, not even soccer superstar David Beckham.

The former England captain recently took to Instagram to proudly boast about his daughter, Harper, with the 48-year-old sharing a black and white photo of the two of them dressed up and smiling for the camera.

However, it wasn't the image that was met with criticism, but Beckham's his choice of caption.

"My little girl is growing up... boys get ready @brooklynpeltzbeckham @romeobeckham @cruzbeckham [boxing glove emoji] @victoriabeckham good job mama," Beckham wrote alongside the image.

Weirdly enough, some fans got the wrong end of the stick and thought the former Manchester United star was telling boys to "get ready" and headed to the comments to express their disgust.

"What do you want boys to get ready to do??" questioned one user with some question face emojis while another added: "Why are we sexualizing preteen girls and reinforcing gender stereotypes? I thought we left these kinds of 'jokes' behind at least 10 years ago."

A third was also less-than-impressed, writing: "'Boys get ready' sounds like you are putting her up for sacrifice."

Thankfully there were many fans who actually understood what Beckham meant and defended the star from the haters.

"[He's] saying the brothers must get ready with boxing [gloves] to stand guard for the boyfriends to come!!! Jeezzzzz you people are clowns," this user wrote, referring to the emojis used in the caption.

"He means boys get ready to protect her from the filth that is out there! Why does nobody have common sense nowadays! You rock dad," another added.

And this user also got the message, commenting: "3 brothers & Dad. Boys don’t stand a chance."

Beckham shares four children with his wife Victoria - Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper.

David previously explained how he purposely raised his sons to respect women and support feminism because of his own upbringing and, of course, having a daughter himself.

"Having a little girl, I think that’s a big part of it," he told the Irish Independent (via Elle) in 2017. "You know, my mom and my dad always brought me up to respect my sisters, my mum, my grandmother. I think that is one thing that I was always brought up with. It is an important part of my life. It has always been an important part of my life."

"I want to do the same for my children. My sons," the father-of-four said.

And mom Victoria didn't fall short when expressing her love for her kids too.

In a Mother's Day letter for TIME, the 49-year-old model said that watching her kids come into their own has brought her "boundless elation".

"They are a wonder to me every day. From playing sport to lounging on the sofa, each of my children fill every second with laughter, music and discussion," she wrote in 2015. "They are kind-hearted and well-mannered and have incredibly enquiring minds, and I feel incredibly blessed to be surrounded by these phenomenal human beings."
