Demi Lovato has slammed a frozen yogurt shop on Instagram as "diet culture vultures."

The singer took to the social media platform to explain that when she visited the Los Angeles frozen yogurt shop The Big Chill, she discovered a selection of "diet foods", including sugar-free cookies. Lovato went on to explain how she found these problematic, having previously spoken candidly about her battle with disordered eating.

"Finding it extremely hard to order froyo from [The Bigg Chill] when you have to walk past tons of sugar-free cookies/other diet foods before you get to the counter," the 28-year-old star posted. "Do better please."

The former Disney star said that she was inspired to create the #DietCultureVultures hashtag to call out harmful instances of diet culture by the incident.

She said she wants to draw attention to "harmful messaging from brands or companies that perpetuate a society that not only enables but praises disordered eating."

The Big Chill subsequently responded to Lovato in their Instagram story explaining that they "carry items for diabetics, [people with] celiac disease, vegan and of course have many indulgent items as well."

In a recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Lovato explained that her battles with eating disorders and addiction are what resulted in her taking an almost fatal overdose in 2018.

"I didn't control any of my life at that period of time," Lovato wrote, adding, "every time I was in a hotel room my phone was taken out of the room so I couldn't order room service."

In another interview with Ashley Graham in February of last year, Lovato said: "I'm tired of running myself into the ground with workouts and extreme dieting.

"I thought the past few years was recovery from an eating disorder when it actually was just completely falling into it," she continued. "And I just realized that maybe my symptoms weren't as obvious as before, but it was definitely an eating issue."
