Demi Lovato recently shared an image of them holding a "funeral" for their pop music, paving the way for a new punk rock era.

On Friday, January 21, the 'Cool For The Summer' singer told their 125 million followers on Instagram that their pop music era had come to an end as they shared a photo of them flipping off the camera.

Also in the picture were music executives from Island Records as well as Lovato's manager Scooter Braun. Everybody seen in the photo was dressed in all black - fit for a funeral of sorts.

Lovato - who is non-binary and goes by they/them pronouns - even captioned the image: "A funeral for my pop music."

The former Disney star later teased a punk rock song on their Instagram story, whipping fans up into a frenzy of anticipation for their idol's new music era.

One fan wrote: "Oh s***. It's Demi Lovato’s emo, pop-punk era. After all the features, covers, and emo nites… ITS TIME AND IM SO READY."

Another added: "demi lovato doing a rock album would kinda be the tea... THINK ABOUT IT."

A third said: "demi lovato making a comeback with rock is exactly what we needed, the world is healing!"

Referring to this new era of music, Lovato told Rolling Stone: "I’m ever-evolving, ever-changing. I’d like to put the rest of my music behind me and start fresh in this new era for this next album — but I do that every album cycle.

"It honestly wasn’t a funeral. It was a label meeting and we just all happened to be in black and I was like, ‘Wow, this is like a funeral for my pop music.’ There wasn’t an actual funeral."

When asked if they would be returning to their "rocky, emo early days," Lovato responded: "That, but better. And also, there’s a bit of… and when I say heaviness, I don’t mean lyrically, but heaviness as in some of the sound that I haven’t done before, which is exciting.

"It’s a new era reminiscent of my first era. I’m not changing with the new music. I’m just going back to my roots!"
