Comedian Druski accused of 'blatant racism' after brutal Erika Kirk parody
Controversial comedian Druski has been accused of ‘blatant racism’ and ‘whiteface’ after a brutal parody of Erika Kirk.
While Kirk’s name wasn’t explicitly mentioned in the skit, it’s pretty clear what the intention was.
Druski has been accused of ‘white face’ before
Druski is no stranger to controversy.
In the past, he has put on a huge amount of make-up to pretend to be a white person in a skit about NASCAR.
During that ‘bit’ the 31-year-old comedian, real name Drew, or Andrew, Desbordes pretended to be a southern US patriot, decked out in denim, a mullet wig, an American flag cowboy hat, and - most controversially - a heap of white make-up and US-themed tattoos.
Now, he’s gone even further down that rabbit hole, and some people are really upset about it.
This time he took on the persona of - while not directly mentioning her - Charlie Kirk’s widow Erika Kirk.
Again, that meant a load of make-up to make himself appear white, as well as a blonde wig.
Druski’s Erika Kirk ‘bit’ didn’t land with everyone
In this video, the joker - known for his outlandish live streams and his memeable characters - wore prosthetics and held a mocked-up press conference about the war in Iran.
He was also interviewed while toting a bible, attending a fitness class, and getting a ‘sweet cream foam chai iced matcha’ at a drive-thru.
This video was titled: “How Conservative Women in America act.”
At the end of the clip, Druski’s ‘Erika’ character can be heard stating: “We have to protect all men in America, especially all white men in America.”
That takes place under the scrutiny of a Black security guard, who looks at her with suspicion.
Some people didn’t take the joke well, though.
Online, one person wrote: “The NASCAR video was funny. It was harmless humor and that’s why most white people didn’t care.
“This is too far though.
“Beyond the blatant racism, you’re mocking a widow who had her husband assassinated in front of the world.
“Imagine a white person dressing up as a ‘black liberal women’ to mock them and posting it on the internet…”
A second said: “Could you imagine the reaction if a white comedian did this to Michelle Obama or Kamala Harris?
“The outrage would be instant and nonstop.
“And let’s not forget, neither of them had their husbands assassinated in front of a crowd and then watched by billions around the world.
“And to be clear, I’m not easily offended.
“I love movies like White Chicks and Tropic Thunder.
“I don’t care if people dress up as different races.
“But this isn’t comedy. It’s just distasteful and grotesque.”
Fans defended Druski
On the other side, some fans leapt to Druski’s defence, with one person writing: “Druski’s makeup and costume design team is truly UNDEFEATED!
“First the insanely realistic NASCAR disguise, then the Megachurch Pastor, and now this wild ‘Conservative Woman’ parody?! Give his entire glam and wardrobe department an Emmy right now.”
Whether you like the skit or not, you have to admit, it has captured people’s attention.
