Elliot Page has taken to Instagram to thank fans and well-wishers for the "love and support" he has received since coming out as transgender.

The actor made the revelation earlier this month in a poignant social media post where he said that he was "proud to share that I am trans" and said that his pronouns are now he/they.

"I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey," he wrote in his coming out post.

Page, who came out as gay in 2014, said that he could not "begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self."

He added: "I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer."

Now, in his first Instagram post since coming out as transgender, the actor wrote: "From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Your love and support has been the greatest gift. Stay safe. Be there for each other."

He then urged his 4.3 million followers, if they are able, to "support @transanta and @translifeline."

Per the Independent, the former is a gifting service that allows people to anonymously buy Christmas presents for young transgender people in need and the latter is a crisis hotline for transgender people.

The actor signed off the post by writing: "See you in 2021. Xoxo Elliot."

In his coming out post, Page also took the opportunity to address the continued violence and discrimination faced by the transgender community.

He wrote: The truth is, despite feeling profoundly happy right now and knowing how much privilege I carry, I am also scared.

"I'm scared of the invasiveness, the hate, the 'jokes' and of violence. To be clear, I am not trying to dampen a moment that is joyous and one that I celebrate, but I want to address the full picture."

He then explained how 40 trans people have been murdered in the US in 2020 and called out those "political leaders who work to criminalize trans health care and deny our right to exist," along with "those with a massive platform who continue to spew hostility towards the trans community".

Hopefully, Page's decision to use his platform as a force for good will help the transgender people who need it most.
