Elon Musk has responded after Twitter users mocked an image of fellow billionaire Richard Branson's kitchen.
The 71-year-old Virgin Galactic founder took to his official Twitter account over the weekend to share a picture of himself meeting the Tesla CEO prior to his scheduled spaceflight on the VSS Unity spacecraft.
Writing to his 12.5 million followers on the platform, Branson wrote: "Big day ahead. Great to start the morning with a friend. Feeling good, feeling excited, feeling ready."
However, a vocal minority of Twitter users seemed less interested in the momentous occasion, and more intrigued by Branson's somewhat dated style of interior decoration for his kitchen.
For example, one person wrote: "One can be a billionaire but still have an ugly kitchen," while another added: "Why are Elon Musk and Richard Branson at my grammy and grampy's house?"
Another commented: "to have billions of dollars and THOSE cabinets? what's the point? [sic]"
A third stated: "[whose] grandmother's house are these guys at right now?"
Finally, someone else chimed in: "Wow, Richard. The spaceship looks roomy, but also like a Midwestern house."
Musk himself has since responded to the furore over the kitchen's furnishings, writing on Twitter: "It was Richard’s rental house, which overall is great, but I agree regarding the cabinets haha.
"This was 3am, day of flight. Wasn't expecting this brutal pic of me to be posted, but oh well."
According to The Sunday Times, the SpaceX head honcho clearly has a lot of faith in Branson's engineering.
The publication reports that he has already put down $10,000 as a deposit to reserve a seat on one of the Virgin Galactic flights. The date for his spaceflight is not yet known.
Branson himself later told The Sunday Times: "Elon’s a friend and maybe I’ll travel on one of his ships one day."
Virgin Galactic flights entail four minutes of being in zero gravity and affluent tourists are expected to spend $250,000 per ticket.
Meanwhile, Amazon founder and the world's richest man Jeff Bezos is also following in Branson's footsteps; planning on journeying into space along with the crew of the latest Blue Origin rocket on Tuesday, July 20.
