Eric Dane was very clear in expressing the ongoing depth of his feelings for Rebecca.
When asked about the essence of their relationship, he shared: "We still love each other deeply."
Despite not living together anymore, Dane emphasized that their bond was unbreakable.
"There’s a lot of love there," he explained, underscoring that he would never experience a love quite like the one he had for Rebecca.
He said: "I'll never… have fallen in love with another woman as deeply as I fell in love with Rebecca."
The connection between Eric and Rebecca was rooted not only in love but also in shared life experiences, especially their children. "She's the mother of my children," Dane noted, reflecting on the powerful and lasting role Rebecca played in his life.
The Start of Eric and Rebecca's Relationship
Dane recalled the moment he first met Rebecca, describing it as organic and almost fateful. "The whole way that thing came about, it was so… organic and fortuitous."
He vividly remembered the exact moment he met her, a moment that seemed destined from the start. In a bold and uncharacteristic move, Eric turned to one of Rebecca’s friends and said, "I’m gonna marry that girl."
When asked how he knew, Dane confessed: "I have no idea. I have no idea how serious I was in that moment," but his words marked the beginning of a lifelong commitment.
Rebecca's friend, however, wasn’t as convinced. "No way. She’s never breaking up with her fiancé," the friend said, highlighting how Rebecca had been with her partner since they were teenagers.
Despite the initial uncertainty and the odds stacked against them, Dane’s prediction came true. Just four years later, he married Rebecca. Looking back, he said, "I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life where it’s supposed to happen."
Gayheart's decision to withdraw her divorce filing after Eric Dane’s ALS diagnosis wasn't driven by a desire to rekindle their romance. Instead, the actress made this life-changing choice with her daughters in mind, wanting to show them the importance of family support during even the most challenging times.
Standing by Family During Life's Darkest Moments
In an emotional appearance on the Broad Ideas podcast last November, Gayheart revealed why she chose to withdraw her divorce filing after years of separation.
She explained that her primary goal was to set an example for their daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14. "We tell them, 'We show up for people no matter what. He is our family. He is your father,’” Gayheart shared.
Throughout Dane’s battle with ALS, Gayheart prioritized her children’s emotional well-being, ensuring they felt supported despite the ongoing challenges. “I want them to feel taken care of,” she explained. “Even though things are hard and sad and bad.”
