It wasn't exactly a surprise to see Meryl Streep get nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress this year. To be quite honest, it would be more shocking if she didn't get nominated, given that the 68-year-old has been nominated for 389 awards and won 156 in her lifetime. Her awards cabinet probably needs its own house by this point.

Out of those 389 nominations, 21 of them were for the Academy Awards, with the actress managing to come up on top and win three times. Alas, this year wasn't the fourth Oscar for Meryl Streep, but I think she has enough shiny objects to polish as it is.

This year she lost out to Frances McDormand, who won for her role in the film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri - which picked up six other nominations, including Sam Rockwell winning Best Supporting Actor. The other actresses nominated for the category were Sally Hawkins for The Shape of Water, Margot Robbie for I, Tonya, and Saoirse Ronan for Lady Bird.

Streep was nominated for her portrayal of Katharine Graham in Steven Spielberg's The Post. Graham was the first female publisher of a major newspaper, at The Washington Post, and even oversaw the publication's infamous coverage of the Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon.

Despite how successfully she slipped into this particular role, the internet seemed to think she looked like someone else entirely when she turned up for the 90th Academy Awards ceremony.

Twitter has pointed out that she looked exactly like the fairy godmother. But they aren't referring to any version of the character, but the specific version that turned up in Shrek 2.

For those that don't remember exactly what she looked like, have a look at this comparison:

But this Twitter user wasn't the only one to notice the similarity between the two of them...

After a while, everyone was jumping on the bandwagon.

As per usual, this wasn't the only thing that viewers noticed about the event. However rich and famous you are, you aren't beyond a roasting from the internet – or the host of the show.

This year the host of the event was late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, who couldn't resist making fun of Emma Stone for last year's mishap. During his opening monologue, the comedian made reference to the infamous 2017 catastrophe in which the Best Picture Oscar was wrongfully given to La La Land, in which Stone starred, when the rightful recipient of the award was Moonlight.

With a year gone since that incident, the loss must still sting just a little bit, but luckily the actress took the joke well when the camera cut to her reaction. However, in best friend fashion, Jennifer Lawrence couldn't help but point and laugh.

Face it - if it was your close friend in that position, you would probably do the same.
