Tom Cruise and his daughter Suri's relationship appears to be a difficult one, with sources claiming the pair haven't seen each other in over a decade.

Suri Cruise was born in April 2006, a year after her mom Katie Holmes and her dad Tom began dating, with the couple having gotten engaged just seven weeks after meeting.

The couple announced their daughter's name in a press release shortly after her birth, revealing that they’d chosen Suri, which was based on a Persian word meaning ‘red rose’.

Tom and Katie got married later the same year in a Scientology ceremony in Italy, but Katie allegedly blindsided Tom as she filed for divorce just six years later, which is when his estrangement from his daughter allegedly began.

According to sources at the time, Katie had surprised Tom by filing for divorce, with insiders alleging that she was worried he may try and take Suri or that she might be intimidated after leaving the Church of Scientology.

After getting custody of Suri, Katie kept her largely shielded from the limelight after once being the most famous celebrity child of the mid-2000s.

According to reports from Page Six, Tom has not seen Suri since 2012, with a source saying: "Katie has safeguarded Suri and she’s a devoted mom.

"This is a girl who is a private citizen. She hasn’t lived her life in public."

The last time Suri and Tom were photographed together was back in 2012, as they visited DisneyWorld together in the summer.

According to reports, Suri also did not see her father on her 18th birthday last month, which was around the time she debuted a new name.

She revealed her new stage name - Suri Noelle - in a playbill for her high school musical, which was obtained by Hello! Magazine .

Suri opted to use her mother’s middle name rather than her father’s surname for her credit in her school's rendition of The Go-Go's jukebox musical, Head Over Heels.

A source told TMZ that it was down to Suri’s estrangement from her dad, claiming: “He does not exist to Katie or Suri, and his daughter does not want to rely on him for anything."

The actor is reportedly committed to paying for Suri’s education and living expenses, despite his attempts to establish a relationship with his daughter so far being reportedly met with silence.

Despite their current estrangement, Suri appeared to have a close bond with her dad while he was married to Katie.

Tom told Vanity Fair in 2006L "My whole life I always wanted to be a father. I always said to myself that my children would be able to depend on me and I would always be there for them and love them — that I’d never make a promise to my kids that I couldn’t keep."

He added: "I’m not one of those people who believe you can spoil a child with too much love. You can never give a child too much love. There’s just no way."

As well as Suri, Tom also has two adopted children, Bella, 31, and Connor, 29, from his marriage to Nicole Kidman.
