Fans have been sharing sweet tributes to Robin Williams on the seventh anniversary of his death.

People from all over the world mourned the loss of the beloved comic after he died by suicide on August 11, 2014, at his California home following his misdiagnosis with Parkinson's Disease.

The Mrs. Doubtfire actor had actually had been contending with symptoms of Lewy body dementia - unbeknownst to him. The correct diagnosis was made after his passing.

Needless to say, Twitter has been awash with heartfelt messages in honor of Williams, seven years after his tragic death.

One fan wrote: "Seven years ago today, we lost this fine soul. I genuinely miss him every day but, thankfully, there's plenty of his grace, charm, and wisdom (and madness) on YouTube to enjoy. Watch some today, will give you a massive smile."

Another added: "7 years since we lost Robin Williams. One of the most talented and gifted actors I've ever known..."

A third shared this emotional tribute: "7 years today since the world lost Robin Williams. I was so heartbroken when it came on the news I cried for a week.

"He could always make me laugh whatever role he did and was the first actor I loved since I was a kid. He also inspired me to act. Thank you Robin for everything."

Lewy body dementia is a disease that can affect a person's thinking, movement, behavior, and mood. It's the second most common type of dementia after Alzheimer's.

The Jumanji star's wife Susan told People Magazine in November 2015 that the symptoms of his disease began to significantly worsen in the months leading up to his suicide.

On July 21, Robin Williams' son Zak paid tribute to his late father on what would have been his 70th birthday.

The 38-year-old took to Instagram to post a black and white picture of his dad to mark the milestone.

He captioned the photo: "Dad, on what would be your 70th birthday, I would want you to know that your incredible spirit lives within us. Our family will be celebrating you and your memory today. We miss you and love you always!"

Zak also spoke about how the symptoms of Lewy body dementia affected his father's mental health, telling  Max Lugavere during an episode of his podcast The Genius Life: "There was a focus issue that frustrated him, there were issues associated with how he felt, and also from a neurological perspective he didn't feel great... He was very uncomfortable."
