The Foo Fighters star, 55, took to Instagram to share a statement confirming that he'd fathered a baby girl and that he would be working to "regain" the trust of his wife, Jordyn Blum, 48, and their three daughters.

He wrote in the post: "I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage.

"I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness."

He added: "We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together."

The musician turned the comments off on the post and his rep confirmed there was nothing further to add.

Grohl, who was formerly the drummer for Nirvana, met his wife back in 2001 after she caught his eye in a Los Angeles bar.

Describing the moment he first saw Blum, who is a former model and MTV producer, he revealed he thought: "Oh, my God. Not a chance!"

He told Q magazine in 2007 that he downed some drinks to pluck up the courage to speak to her, explaining: "By the end of the night I was p**sed and I’m staring at her going, ‘You’re my future ex-wife.’

"So she gave me her number: ‘Jordyn, your future ex-wife.’"

He told Elle in 2007 that he had initially ghosted Blum after believing he wasn;t ready to date, explaining: "When I first met my wife, we went out on a few dates and I decided that I wasn’t ready for a serious relationship, so I just stopped calling.

"After three months, I had a revelation and called her back,” adding that Blum responded by telling him: “’Oh, I never thought I’d hear from you again.’”

The couple married on August 2, 2003, in a private ceremony involving their loved ones and some of Grohl's musical friends, including former Nirvana bandmate Krist Novoselic and Clive Davis.

The marriage was Grohl's second, having divorced from photographer Jennifer Youngblood in 1997, with the star admitting to infidelity.

Grohl and Blum have three children together - daughters Violet Maye, 18, Harper Willow, 15, and Ophelia Saint, 10.

The Foo Fighters star had previously said that becoming a father had changed his outlook on life and work, telling Time: "I used to tour nine months out of the year. Now I don’t like being away from my kids for more than 12 days.

"It’s changed everything that I do. When you have kids, you see life through different eyes. You feel love more deeply and are maybe a little more compassionate. It’s inevitable that that would make its way into your songwriting."
