George Clooney was rushed to hospital when he developed pancreatitis after losing 28 pounds for his upcoming movie, The Midnight Sky.
The 59-year-old's weight loss was for his role as an astronomer who miraculously survives following an apocalyptic occurrence, the New York Post reports.
However, just four days before he was supposed to be on set, the Hollywood heartthrob was hospitalized after experiencing stomach pains.
Clooney was then diagnosed with the condition, in which inflammation occurs in the pancreas, and had to spend some weeks in recovery.
He told The Mirror, "I think I was trying too hard to lose the weight quickly and probably wasn’t taking care of myself."
Clooney, who is also the director of the forthcoming movie, added, "It took a few weeks to get better and as a director, it’s not so easy because you need energy.
"We were out on this glacier in Finland, which made it a lot harder work. But it certainly helped with the character."
He also had to grow a beard as part of his role, which he admits his wife, Amal, 42, and his daughter weren't too keen on.
"I grew a big ugly beard and my son loved it because he’d hide things in it, which I wouldn’t know about until I got to work and I’d be like, 'Oh, there’s a popsicle stuck in my beard,'" he said.
It turns out that George Clooney is quite the prankster - at least, according to Matt Damon:

Clooney added: "But my wife and daughter were really happy when it came off because it was very hard to find a face underneath all that mess."
George and Amal Clooney are parents to twins born in 2017 - a three-year-old boy called Alexander and a three-year-old girl named Ella.
They have spent most of lockdown in the Hollywood Hills.
"We really haven’t moved since February," Clooney told the Mirror. "It’s easier in Los Angeles because it’s not raining and snowing, so it’s a lot easier to walk out in the street."
The actor also told the tabloid that he has kept himself occupied during the pandemic by cooking for his family and doing DIY-type chores, including painting and wood-staining furniture.
