Gillian Anderson has been showered with praise for candidly sharing that she no longer wears a bra.

What's more, the X-Files star is totally fine if doing so means that her chest no longer meets certain body image ideals set out for women in our society - namely a perky pair with plenty of cleavage to boot.

The 52-year-old shared her newfound perspective on bras during a question and answer session in an Instagram live.

"I don't wear a bra anymore. I can't wear a bra. I'm sorry," she said. "I don’t care if my breasts reach my belly button. I’m not wearing a bra anymore, it’s just too f***ing uncomfortable."

Check out what Gillian had to say here:

Per CNN Style, the British-American actress had been answering a question from a fan about outfits she donned during quarantine when she suddenly launched into her passionate stance on the "uncomfortable" undergarment.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the actress, who is known for playing sex-positive therapist Dr. Jean Milburn on Netflix's Sex Education, garnered a great deal of admiration from fans after voicing her views on bras.

One fan said: "Amen sisters!!!! I quit wearing a bra years ago! We women deserve our comfort. I love this! Why in the world shouldn’t women have the same feeling of comfort in clothing and shoes that men have enjoyed for years?!?! Big smile!!!"

Another commented: "Applause! Hopefully, this is the beginning of a movement and I suspect fully endorsed by both genders."

A third said: "She is just an incredibly beautiful woman. (And I mean that in every single sense and application of the word.)"

Meanwhile, a final person commented: "Love this. I wish more people would do this or think this way. Then possibly society would be less judgemental."

Here's to Gillian for being so unapologetically comfortable in her own skin!

In any case, the actress is a true icon in more ways than one. Earlier this year, she won a Golden Globe for best-supporting actress in a TV series, for her role as Margaret Thatcher in The Crown. Is there anything she can't do?
