Following last night's Golden Globes awards, one name is on the minds of nearly every viewer: Ricky Gervais.

And it wasn't because Gervais took home the award for Best Standup Special -- it was because his presenting skills were dearly missed.

Last night's 81st Golden Globe Awards boasted the usual pomp and circumstance of a star-studded event. Held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, the evening saw many fan favorites win big - including Cillian Murphy as Best Actor for Oppenheimer and Barbie for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.

However, one person who viewers struggled to get behind was this year's host, Jo Koy.

In defense of the 52-year-old comedian, Koy admitted in his opening monologue that he only landed the gig 10 days ago - meaning his material probably wasn't as polished as he'd have liked. Just take a look below:

But after describing Barbie as a movie about a "plastic doll with big boobies" and leaving Taylor Swift looking very unimpressed after joking about her NFL appearances, it's safe to say that Koy didn't have a great day at the office.

One viewer even tweeted: "What. A. Trainwreck. Jesus. I seriously think this is the worst opening monologue of any award show in... Well, since I remember honestly. Not a single joke lands."

A second critic added: "I can comfortably say, it was the worst opening monologue of an awards ceremony I’ve ever seen. Literally did not laugh once."

This left many viewers pining for better times - more specifically, when Ricky Gervais used to host the ceremony.

The 62-year-old comedian and actor has hosted the Golden Globes five times - in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, and 2020 - and each time he took to the podium, he left celebrities squirming and viewers in hysterics with his biting humor (and honesty).

Relive one of Gervais' greatest Golden Globes' opening monologues:

Gervais' "f*** it" attitude made him the perfect host to stand in a room with the Hollywood elite. From joking that the "In Memoriam" segment was canceled because "it wasn’t diverse enough" to joking about the age of DiCaprio's girlfriends - Gervais had no fear.

In fact, after last night's show, viewers took to X to beg for Gervais to be named host of the 2025 ceremony.

"The Worst host ever - @Jokoy you failed. Ring @rickygervais and book him now for 2025. Turned it off because it was so painful," one person tweeted.

A second wrote: "Producers of the Golden Globes are reportedly on the phone to Ricky Gervais about hosting for the 2025 show."

"Saw some of Jo Koy’s jokes from his Golden Globes monologue. Dear lord… he’s painfully unfunny. Can Ricky Gervais come back next year?" another asked.

"The Golden Globes was pathetic tonight," another unimpressed viewer wrote, "They need to bring Ricky back next year".

And another added: "#GoldenGlobes why isn't @rickygervais hosting. Get him back next year please."

So, what do you think? Did you think Koy did a good job and that people are being too harsh? Or would you like to see Ricky Gervais return to do what he does best: roast Hollywood.
