Gone Girl actress Lisa Banes has tragically died at the age of 65 after a fatal hit-and-run involving an electric scooter.

Close friends of the Cocktail cast member confirmed that she had died as a result of traumatic brain injuries sustained on June 4.

Banes was knocked down by an electric scooter near Lincoln Square in Manhattan while on her way to meet her wife Kathryn Kranhol.

She was taken by paramedics to Mount Sinai Saint Luke's Hospital in critical condition.

Per Entertainment Tonight, a representative of Banes stated:

"We are heartsick over Lisa's tragic and senseless passing.

"She was a woman of great spirit, kindness, and generosity, and [was] dedicated to her work, whether on stage, or in front of a camera, and even more so to her wife, family, and friends.

"We were blessed to have had her in our lives."

On Twitter, a number of Banes' friends and colleagues have since reacted to the sad news.

Among the mourners was Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane, who wrote: "I am deeply saddened at the news of Lisa Banes' passing. We had the good fortune to work with her on The Orville this past year.

"Her stage presence, magnetism, skill, and talent were matched only by her unwavering kindness and graciousness toward all of us. A tremendous loss… [sic]"

Meanwhile, singer Jill Sobule paid a tribute of her own, writing: "Just busted. Lisa Banes was magnificent, hilarious, and big-hearted - always helped me through the hard times. She was so beloved by so many."

New York Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances of the accident, and have not yet identified the driver of the vehicle that struck the actress.

Per Metro, a spokesperson for the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad stated: "[Banes] was attempting to cross Amsterdam Avenue, from west to east inside the north crosswalk at West 64 Street with the pedestrian signal in her favor."

The spokesperson continued: "When a scooter - traveling north on Amsterdam Avenue - did pass the red traffic signal and strike the pedestrian, knocking her to the roadway. The scooter then fled the location, continuing northbound.

"There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing."

According to IMDB, Banes also starred as Doctor Renhol in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, as well as in Murder She Wrote, Frasier, Six Feet Under, and Nashville, among other productions.
