Greta Thunberg has taken to Twitter to troll her 4.9 million followers on April Fool's Day - and in the process, brought back one of the most iconic pranks of all time.

The 18-year-old climate activist has made quite a name for herself as an expert social media troll over the past year, taking opportunistic shots at Donald Trump and even using her birthday to hit back at trolls.

So it's no surprise that the Swedish teen would exploit April Fool's Day to prank her millions of Twitter followers.

On Thursday, the cunning Thunberg wrote to her supporters: "I made a video where I talk about some small things we ALL can and should do to stop the climate crisis.

"We are in this together, and everyone is needed. YOU get to decide what future you’ll live in.
So please watch, share and start doing your part today!"

Attaching a YouTube link to her tweet, I'm sure many an unsuspecting carer of the environment clicked expecting to be enlightened.

However, the link did not lead to an educational video that Greta had made - it led to the YouTube video for Rick Astley's 1987 hit 'Never Gonna Give You Up'.

That's right, Greta Rick Roll'd her followers - and once again made Rick Rolling the most relevant troll on the internet for the first time it went mainstream in 2008.

And it seems a number of her followers were indeed fooled by Greta - although, no everybody got the joke:

Thunberg has built a reputation for her sharp wit on social media recently.

Last month, she took to Twitter to share a Sky News article with the headline: "Human penises are shrinking because of pollution, warns scientist".

In said article, environmental scientist Dr Shanna Swan writes in her new book, titled Count Down, that the human race is facing an "existential crisis" due to the fact that rising levels of phthalates - a chemical used when manufacturing plastics - is causing "a growing number of babies are being born with small penises".

In response, Thunberg wrote alongside it: "See you all at the next climate strike."

And back in January, Thunberg took to Twitter to troll Donald Trump as left the White House for the very last time.

As the former president vacated the Oval Office, the climate activist shared the following tweet, heavy with irony: "He seems like a very happy old man looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!"

As you may remember, Thunberg was harking back to a previous tweet Trump had written about the Swede following her address to the Davos summit in January last year.

At that time, the president tweeted: "She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!"

Oh, and let's not forget about this genius tweet that she shared on her 18th birthday:

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Greta Thunberg is the Queen of Twitter.
