Yesterday, the situation on COVID-19 intensified as the World Health Organisation officially declared the virus a pandemic.
And earlier that same day, climate activist Greta Thunberg tweeted about the outbreak, only to receive - among other replies - several tweets from trolls telling her they "hope she catches it and dies".
These are the tweets that got the trolls so riled up, they wished death on a teenager:

She wrote: "We can’t solve a crisis without treating it as a crisis and we must unite behind experts and science. This of course goes for all crises.
"Now the experts urge us to avoid big public gatherings for a better chance to #flattenthecurve and slow the spreading of the Coronavirus."
In an equally reasonable follow-up tweet, she added: "So I personally recommend that we do as the experts say. Especially in high-risk areas.
"We young people are the least affected by this virus but it’s essential that we act in solidarity with the most vulnerable and that we act in the best interest of our common society."

The Swedish activist then continued: "The climate and ecological crisis is the biggest crisis humanity has ever faced but for now (of course depending on where you live) we’ll have to find new ways to create public awareness & advocate for change that don’t involve too big crowds - listen to local authorities."
Finally, she recommended: "So keep your numbers low but your spirits high and let’s take one week at the time. You can join the #DigitalStrike for upcoming Fridays- post a photo of you striking with a sign and use the hashtag #ClimateStrikeOnline ! #fridaysforfuture #climatestrike #schoolstrike4climate"
The following are among some of the vile tweets Thunberg received in response to her coronavirus advice:
And it's not just the keyboard warriors who feel the need to mercilessly troll the 17-year-old. Earlier this year, a radio host and former aide to President Donald Trump was slammed for making a joke about her body.

In a report from the World Health Organization yesterday, they declared that the COVID-19 outbreak is now being officially recognized as a pandemic:
"WHO has been assessing this outbreak around the clock and we are deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction.
"We have therefore made the assessment that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic.
"Pandemic is not a word to use lightly or carelessly. It is a word that, if misused, can cause unreasonable fear, or unjustified acceptance that the fight is over, leading to unnecessary suffering and death."
As of yesterday's report, there have now been more than 118,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across 114 countries, and 4,291 people have lost their lives.
