Grimes has revealed that her child has chosen not to call her "mommy" or "mom", and instead call her by her first name.
The 33-year-old musician is currently in a relationship with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and the pair welcomed their son, named X Æ A-XII, back in May of 2020.
Now, in a candid video for Vogue, Grimes has revealed that her son doesn't call her "mom" like most kids, and instead addresses her by her first name, Claire.
"I think having a baby was a big, like, rebirth for me. Like, artistically," she said. "Being a mother - feels weird to say it for some reason - I don't identify with that word."
She then explains: "X, he says 'Claire' but he doesn't say like 'Mama', which is so, I'm like how are you... Maybe he can sense my distaste for the word mother."
She added: "Which, I don't even know why I have a distaste for it, I respect it...I [just] can't identify with it, weirdly."
Can we all just take a moment to appreciate that they call X Æ A-XII "X" for short? Absolutely adorable.
Last year, the musician tweeted the meaning behind her and Musk's unusual baby name, saying: "X, the unknown variable. Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence).
"A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent."
The second A in the child's name stands for Archangel, which is Grimes' favorite song, and 12 is a reference to the Chinese zodiac and the year of the rat, with 2020 being believed to be the year of the Metal Rat.
In terms of the pronunciation of the child's name, it seems like there are two ways the parents prefer.
On Instagram, Grime replied to a comment explaining: "It's just X, like the letter X. Then A.I. Like how you said the letter A then I."
However, during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Musk told the host: "It's just X, the letter X. And then the Æ is, like, pronounced 'ash'".
In the video, she also revealed her desire to die on Mars, but admitted that she wouldn't like to venture to the Red Planet until she's 50.
