Gwyneth Paltrow took to Instagram today to share that she recently had a radiation-free ultrasound after pushing back her annual mammogram check-up.

The 47-year-old shared a topless photo of herself, using just her arms to cover her breasts. The Shakespeare in Love actress then disclosed that she had been travelling for work in recent weeks, meaning that she had to rearrange her regular breast check-up appointment.

Gwyneth proceeded to say how she visited SonoBreasts in Santa Monica, where she had a radiation and pain free ultrasound in between her scheduled mammograms.

"October was breast cancer awareness month. I was working and traveling so I punted my annual check up a few weeks," she captioned the image. "I went to go see my friend @sonobreasts for a radiation-free, pain-free breast scan. I like to do these in between mammograms to cover all my bases."

Fans of the actress were quick to praise her for her decision. "I did this too this year, was amazing!," commented Mad Men star, January Jones, while Amanda de Cadenet corroborated "Weird because I was there yesterday . We could’ve had a friend date there."

Per the Sonobreasts website, the SonoCiné Automated Whole Breast Ultrasound uses no radiation, and doesn't squeeze the breasts.

The company claims that 50 per cent of mammograms miss cancerous cells if the person in question has dense breast tissue of implants, while the ultrasound can allegedly detect cells as small as 3mm.

"SonoCiné scans the lymph nodes all the way to the chest wall, recording 3,000 images and turning it into a video for the radiologist to review to provide the best accuracy," the website reads.

Visiting patients do not need to book an appointment prior to treatment, and the ultrasound reportedly only takes between 10 and 15 minutes.
