Hilary Clinton has shared her thoughts on the recent "heart-rending" interview Meghan Meghan and Prince Harry gave to Oprah Winfrey.
The former first lady and presidential candidate, 73, said that the "cruelty" the British press showed to Meghan Markle was "outrageous" and criticized the Royal Family for failing to provide the necessary support to a "young woman who was just trying to live her life."
Clinton shared her thoughts on the bombshell interview during a live event with the Washington Post on Monday (March 8), after the interview was aired by CBS the previous evening.
Listen to Clinton's thoughts below:"I found it so heart-rending to watch," Clinton said, explaining that she had met the pair, as well as the late Princess Diana.
Clinton also said that she felt the "incredibly accomplished" Meghan was not "fully embraced" by the "permanent bureaucracy that surrounds the Royal family" and the UK press.
She explained that she personally related to the interview, as she too has had run-ins with the British press, saying: "I've had my time in the box with the British tabloids, as anybody who is in the public eye has had, and their cruelty in going after Meghan was just outrageous.
"The fact she did not get more support that the reaction was, you know, 'let's just paper it over and pretend it didn’t happen or it will go away, just keep your head down' - well, this young woman was not going to keep her head down."
"You know, this is 2021 and she wanted to live her life, she wanted to be fully engaged and she had every right to hope for that," Clinton added.

During the two-hour interview, Meghan and Harry opened up on what their life as senior members of the Royal Family was really like and what ultimately made them decide to leave.
Meghan explained that the strain of Royal life affected her mental health to the point where she struggled with suicidal ideation while pregnant with her first child, Archie.
"I just didn't want to be alive anymore," she told Winfrey. "And that was a very clear and real and frightening constant thought."
Meghan explained that at the time, she wanted to seek professional psychiatric care, including being admitted as an inpatient, but she was prevented form doing so by an unnamed senior royal who said it "wouldn't be good for the institution."
She also revealed that a member of the Royal Family speculated about how dark Archie's skin would be prior to his birth.
There were "concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he is born," Meghan told Oprah. "There are several conversations ... Potentially and what that would mean or look like."
