Italy's Eurovision winner Damiano David of Maneskin has been cleared of drug use after allegations were made against him during the final.

The singer, 22, took a voluntary drugs test after viewers of the singing competition speculated that he had taken substances live on Saturday night's show.

This resulted in a video of Damiano leaning over a table going viral on social media, with the singer immediately speaking out to deny the allegations. David claimed he was leaning down because his bandmate broke a glass.

Now, as per Daily Mirror, Eurovision bosses have confirmed that he passed the drugs test.

Damiano remained positive in the wake of his Eurovision win despite the controversy surrounding his actions and as well as denying the allegations, he explained that his winning song was breaking streaming records in Italy.

"Zitti E Buoni is number 9 on Spotify global chart. It's the Italian most-streamed song ever, something this never happened," he penned.

"As we told you, rock 'n' roll never dies," he said in his winning speech.

The singer decided to speak out after bosses of the competition accused the rumors of "overshadowing" the success of the band's win.

Eurovision bosses said they were "alarmed" by what they described as "fake news" drugs allegations in a statement. Officials said the singer underwent a voluntary drugs test to prove his innocence.

The statement read: "Following allegations of drug use in the Green Room of the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final on Saturday 22 May, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), as requested by the Italian delegation, has conducted a thorough review of the facts, including checking all available footage.

"A drug test was also voluntarily undertaken earlier today by the lead singer of the band Måneskin which has returned a negative result seen by the EBU.

"No drug use took place in the Green Room and we consider the matter closed.

"We are alarmed that inaccurate speculation leading to fake news has overshadowed the spirit and the outcome of the event and unfairly affected the band.

"We wish to congratulate Måneskin once again and wish them huge success. We look forward to working with our Italian member Rai on producing a spectacular Eurovision Song Contest in Italy next year."
