Jamie Lee Curtis was overcome with emotion earlier this week after watching messages from some of her biggest fans.
The 63-year-old star is currently promoting her latest movie, Halloween Ends, which is the final chapter in the beloved horror movie franchise.
In 1978, Curtis made her feature film debut in John Carpenter's slasher flick Halloween. She played the role of high school student Laurie Strode, who becomes the target of serial killer Michael Myers on Halloween night.
Fortunately, Strode survives Myers' onslaught - cementing her legacy as one of the very first "final girls" in the slasher movie genre.
Curtis would reprise her popular role a further six times, appearing in the sequels Halloween II (1981), Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998), Halloween: Resurrection (2002), Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills (2021), and most recently, Halloween Ends (2022).
The role would not only lead to Curtis becoming a staple of the Halloween franchise, but of the slasher genre as a whole - as she would go on to star in other horror movies such as The Fog, Prom Night, Terror Train and Roadgames.
Yes, as well as being known as the "Final Girl", Curtis is also fondly referred to by fans as the "Scream Queen".
Watch the emotional video below:Now, in a video promoting the release of the new movie, Curtis has been showered with praise and thanks from some of her biggest fans.
In a post shared to the official Halloween Instagram page, Curtis can be seen watching a video montage of some of her fans branding her the " greatest 'Final Girl' in the world".
Another fan gushes: "You mean a lot to myself, and horror fans and film fans across the world."
"I love you, we love you, thank you," another adds, as Curtis can be seen becoming more and more emotional.
"Thank you, guys," Curtis says, before gesturing to the camera and saying: "Turn this f***ing thing off, I can't..."
After taking a moment to compose herself, Curtis then tells her fans: "It's obviously hard, all of it is hard saying goodbye and nobody wants to say that. So, I won't say that. I am just going to say thank you.
"It's a legacy that I'm very, very proud is attached to me and one that I treat with a lot of respect. So, Happy Halloween everybody, God bless you all. Thank you for everything."
In an essay to PEOPLE, Curtis also wrote about how it felt to finally be saying goodbye to the role of Laurie, saying: " "When I look scared in a movie, it's because I am scared. I am scared right now, as I hang up my bell-bottoms and say goodbye to Halloween.
"Life is scary. But Laurie taught me that life can also be beautiful, filled with love and art and life! Thank you all for MINE!"
Halloween Ends is in movie theaters now and available to stream on Peacock.
