At any event as big and important as the Oscars, something is bound to go wrong. This could be anything from a celebrity acting a little too drunk and disorderly, to an interviewer saying the wrong thing on the red carpet, or even the wrong winner being read out in front of millions of people.
And, as we all know from 2017's confusion, that last option can be incredibly awkward. During the ceremony, Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty mistakenly announced La La Land as the winner of the Best Picture award, only for the film's producer, Fred Berger, to step up to the mic and say, "We lost, by the way."
Thankfully, there were no major mess-ups this time around. But that didn't stop Jennifer Lawrence from trolling her best friend Emma Stone about last year's gaffe.
Stone was one of the main stars of La La Land and was left incredibly embarrassed last year when she rushed up to the stage only to find out that she hadn't won the award at all. Jimmy Kimmel, who was hosting the Oscars this year, cracked a joke about this when he said, "This year, when you hear your name called, don't get up right away. Give us a minute."
As the audience laughed, the camera panned to Stone to catch her reaction. What it captured instead, however, was Lawrence literally pointing and laughing right in her face.
The moment was then immortalized almost immediately when it went viral on Twitter, with many people joking that Lawrence is the one "a**hole friend" that all of us have.
But Lawrence's giggly fun didn't end there. The 27-year-old Red Sparrow star was also seen giving a real performance on the red carpet, posing for pictures by throwing her arms up in the air and dancing around in front of other stars. Later on, she was later spotted climbing over chairs while clutching a large glass of wine as she attempted to find some of her Hollywood pals to sit with.
When it came to presenting the award for Best Actress, she roasted Meryl Streep on stage with Jodie Foster, who was on crutches during the ceremony.
The pair joked that Streep was responsible for Foster's injuries, with the Silence of the Lambs actress saying, "But you know, I prefer not to discuss it."
Lawrence then added jokingly, "No, it’s cool, you know she tripped me once."
Despite her poking fun, though, it appears that Lawrence is a great friend. She and Stone have been spotted hanging out on various occasions, and famously ditched the Golden Globes afterparty in order to have a chill evening together.
Neither actress won any awards this time around, but both of them were given the privilege of presenting one. Stone caused a little controversy when it came to handing out the Oscar for best director, as she introduced the nominees as "four men and Greta Gerwig," but most people saw the funny side.
Perhaps they'll have a shot at winning something next year; but, even if they don't, it seems like they're perfectly happy to just have the chance to spend time together.
