Jennifer Lawrence gives honest explanation as to why she doesn’t want to speak out against Trump anymore
Jennifer Lawrence has revealed why she chooses not to speak out publicly against Donald Trump anymore. The Oscar‑winning actor says that although she has been open about political views in the past, she no longer believes such comments serve the wider good.
Lawrence points out that after backing candidates like Joe Biden in 2020 and Kamala Harris in 2024, she changed her mind about the value of high‑profile endorsements. She told PEOPLE earlier that she was voting for Kamala Harris “because I think she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will do whatever she can to protect reproductive rights.”
She also noted: “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady‑handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
She felt her voice might be doing more harm than good
Lawrence explained that when Trump first took office she was very outspoken, but after seeing how little impact celebrity endorsements had on elections she began to question her role.
“I don’t really know if I should,” she told the New York Times. “During the first Trump administration, I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for.”
She went on to ask: “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart.”
Protecting her craft and focusing on her work
Lawrence also reflected on her decision to shift how she engages politically. When asked if she regretted speaking out during Trump’s first term she replied: “Probably? I regret everything I’ve ever done or said.”
She added: “I’m going to take the zip drives out of all of these cameras when I leave. The second term feels different. Because he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for four years. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”
Currently promoting her upcoming film Die My Love, which opens in cinemas on November 7, Lawrence appears more focused on letting her work speak for itself rather than the headlines.
