Jim Carrey shows off 'unrecognizable' appearance during rare outing leaving fans upset
Social media users have been left stunned after Jim Carrey showed off his 'unrecognizable' appearance at a rare red carpet appearance.
The 64-year-old Hollywood icon attended the 51st edition of the Cesar Film Awards ceremony in Paris on Thursday (February 56).
This is his first public appearance since November 2025, when he attended the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
Fans react to dramatic new look
The Mask star arrived at the ceremony sporting noticeably longer, shoulder-length hair, though he kept his signature middle part.
He paired his locks with an all-black tuxedo, complete with a black button-up shirt and bowtie - a complete contrast to his last public appearance, where he had worn a shorter, gelled-back hairstyle along with a knee-length black blazer, a graphic T-shirt, black pants, and boots.
"I love Jim with all my heart but the last public photos.. I keep saying that he looks weird..," penned one X user while another claimed: "Who is this? Because it is definitely not Jim Carrey. The eyes aren’t even the same color. They don’t even care anymore. Thats how you know it’s a wrap."
A third questioned: "Why does he look like an old version of his younger self, but not just regular old him, Carrey? I can’t explain it."
"Bro looks like Keanu Reeves without a beard," a fourth quipped while a fifth declared: "That is NOT Jim Carrey. And we’re not going to do anything about it."
But not everyone was negative as many supporters rushed to defend the actor and focused on how content he appeared.
"Good to see him all smiles!" one fan gushed.
"Oh wow! He is looking good," beamed a second user.
Honored With A Cesar D'Honneur
The Canadian-American actor received a Cesar d'honneur in recognition of his acting career.
He accepted the special honor with a speech delivered in French, with what he described as a thick American accent.
"As an actor, each character you play is like clay in the sculptor’s hands, which you shape to your heart’s desire. How fortunate I have been to share this art with so many people who have truly opened their hearts to me," he began, per Variety.
Carrey also shared a personal family connection to France, explaining that 'about 300 years ago, (his) great, great, great, great, great, great-grandfather, Marc-François Carré, yes, Carré, was born in France, in Saint Malo' before emigrating to Canada.
"Tonight, with this magnificent honour, this square (carré in French) has come full circle," he said.
The Bruce Almighty star attended the ceremony with his daughter Jane, grandson Jackson, and girlfriend Mina, and made sure to acknowledge them in his speech.
"Thank you to my wonderful family, my daughter Jane, and my grandson Jackson. I love you now and forever. Thank you to my sublime companion, Mina. I love you, Mina. And finally, thank you to the funniest man I have ever known: my father. Percy Joseph Carrey, who taught me the value of love, generosity, and laughter," he concluded.
After finishing up, he lightened the mood by asking: "So, how was my French? Almost mediocre, right?
"Forgive me, I didn’t speak French, but I’m just learning it. My tongue is tired."
