Earlier this week, actor Jim Carrey was branded a "sleazebag" for telling a female reporter she was the only thing left "to do" on his "bucket list". The controversial moment occurred during a press junket with Heat magazine's Charlotte Long for Sonic the Hedgehog.

Take a look at the interview in question below (the moment occurs at 1:38):

When Long asked him: "What is left of your bucket list?" Carrey replied: "You. You're the only thing left to do."  Long then laughs and says: "I don't know what to say to that", to which Carrey replies: "Just own it".

This isn't the first time, Carrey has been criticized for objectifying women.

Check out the moment Carrey implied Margot Robbie's success was down to her looks - to her face:

But back to this more recent interview gaffe, while Long appeared to laugh off the comment, some people felt the 'innuendo' was inappropriate, and expressed as much on social media.

One person wrote: "Such a huge fan of @JimCarrey but lost respect for him today. This is really unacceptable, I wish and hope he apologizes to you."

Another replied to the video, saying: "Unfortunately it turns out Jim Carrey is a massive sleazebag".

Carrey has since responded via his publicist, who said that his comment was not actually directed at the journalist herself.

"This is a ridiculous non-story. Jim’s full quote was 'Just you! That’s it, I’m all done now!' clearly and good-naturedly referring to the interview as being on the top of his bucket list," his publicist tells Yahoo Entertainment.

"It was in no way a reference to the journalist herself. This is another example of a clickbait headline pandering to the dark side of 'scroll culture' — a dirty business done by and for people with dirty minds."
