Last night's 2020 Emmy Awards was full of headline-making moments.
If the fact that the entire ceremony taking place behind closed doors in a huge A-list Zoom call wasn't big enough, we also had 24-year-old Zendaya making history by becoming the youngest 'Best Actress' winner in the award's history.

In addition, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, and Courteney Cox treated viewers to a 50% Friends reunion, as we eagerly await the actual HBO reunion.
However, despite the many talking points coming out of last night's incredible show, there was one moment that left a sour taste in the mouths of many viewers watching at home.
After losing to Englishman John Oliver in the Variety Series category, host Jimmy Kimmel joked that he was going to report his rival talk show host to ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement).

The quip was particularly controversial considering that an ICE whistleblower spoke out last week regarding a "high rate of hysterectomies and medical neglect" at a particular facility, as CNN and other major news outlets reported.
Yes, despite host Kimmel, 52, doing an entertaining job throughout the night, many viewers were unable to let this joke slide, and quickly took to Twitter to bash the presenter.

One Twitter user wrote: "Jimmy that ICE joke was a hard no. You are disgusting."

And a second concurred, tweeting: "Jokes about reporting folks not born in America to the brutal force that #ice has become are Not Funny."

Another Twitter user branded Kimmel's joke "tone-deaf" and "insensitive".

Kimmel was also slammed on Twitter for his "white privilege" that even allowed him to get away with the joke, with one social media user writing:
"The amount of white privilege it took for Jimmy Kimmel to get up on stage at a nationally televised event and make a joke about ice and have no one tell him that that isn’t okay, is absolutely astonishing to me."

Of course, per The List, Oliver received his US citizenship back in December 2019, and earlier this year spoke out about how difficult it was for him to attain.
He told fellow talk show host Jimmy Fallon back in June: "I mean it's really bad. And it's bad for me [...] that's what I guess is the scary canary in the coal mine. It's bad for a white man coming from Britain who has the help of first Comedy Central and then HBO lawyers."
