John Mayer has directly responded to an expletive-laden message from a Taylor Swift fan who told him to go "choke on something".
Over the last few days, the internet has seen fans of the former country star share their excitement over the release of her new album Red (Taylor's Version), which is a re-recording of her original 2012 album titled Red.
And while many devoted Swifties have been expressing their excitement in pretty harmless and non-toxic ways, a section of the 'All Too Well' singer's fanbase has been targeting some of her famous exes.

Swift is re-recording her first six albums so that she can own her own music after Scooter Braun acquired her previous label Big Machine Records, which meant he was in control of most of her work.
After Red, the 31-year-old Grammy winner will be recording Speak Now, which features the song 'Dear John', widely thought to be about her 2009 relationship with John Mayer, when she was 19 and he was 32.
The song accuses a man named John of playing "dark twisted games" despite Swift's young age at the time of their romance.
Some Swifties still feel aggrieved by the fact that Mayer allegedly broke Swift's heart and have been swarming the 'Gravity' singer's Instagram inbox.

Taking to TikTok, a user, who goes by the handle @hoeforlouaylor, shared a screenshot in a now-deleted video showing one of the direct messages she sent him on Instagram.
She wrote: "F*** yourself you ugly b**** I hope you choke on something."
She then added: "Answer me you b****".
To her surprise, Mayer actually responded, writing: "Hi Alondra, I’ve been getting so many messages like these the past couple days. I’m not upset, I just tend to have a curious mind and feel compelled to ask. Do you really hope that I die?"
Alondra then sent the singer a voice note apologising for her harsh words and explained in a separate message: "My friend literally dared me to do that. She's a Taylor fan and like so am I. It was a dare. I'm sorry. I did not expect you to see."
Mayer appeared understanding, asking: "So it's a fun thing people are doing without taking into account that I might see it and be affected by it?"
Alondra responds: "Yeah, I guess nobody really thought you would see it or answer since you are famous and don't interact with random people. again, very sorry!!"
Mayer then assures her: "There was some healing here today! It's 100 percent okay, Go forth and live happy and healthy."
In any case, Swift is currently promoting her new album Red (Taylor's Version). A real fan favorite on the original Red album is the track 'All Too Well' and while it never became a single, it did go on to become one of the most popular songs in Swift's catalog.
It is rumored to be about the three-month relationship she had with actor Jake Gyllenhaal at the end of 2010 when he was 29 and she was 20.
'All Too Well' was originally 10 minutes long, and had to be cut down to just over five minutes. The new version of the song has retained the original parts of the track and those which had to be cut.
Swift also made a short film to accompany the new 10-minute version, with Dylan O'Brien playing an older man dating a young woman played by Sadie Sink.
Considering the age gap between O'Brien and Sink is identical to that between Swift and Gyllenhaal, fans felt that this confirmed that the song was indeed about her whirlwind romance with the Brokeback Mountain actor.
